Yeah, I remember calling for it on here and being shot down by several posters saying stuff like 'Washbrook is better', 'He doesn't have the physique for it', and 'No FC coach has ever seen fit to play him there in X years'.

| Very solid, and very consistent. Never going to be a Paul Sculthorpe but decent enough.
Like Westerman, his best performances are wider.

Haven't successive coaches tried to get him to do it and he said no?

I highly doubt Sir Rich has ever said no to playing any position asked of him.

I seem to recall a coach trying to get him to bulk up for second row, may well be wrong.

Spot on Robbo; you obviously havn't met him he wouldn't say no to washing the shirts, he signed in about 4 days flat and just wants to play for Hull FC till he retires!

There was nothing wrong with his pace when he skinned Dobson for Briscoes try at the end
To be honest although he doesnt possess lighting speed I dont think he is too much of a slouch either.
I think Rich Whiting should & will go down as one of the best servants in the Clubs history, a gentlemen and model professional.

don't know it that is an appropriate emoticon - I just wanted to use one I hadn't used before.

I think that was Peter Sharp and he broke his leg (or arm) quite early in the season. Agar saw him as a centre though, he hardly ever picked him in the pack.

That's true and he was trying to bulk up, even going so far as eating badly, but he's one of those people who just doesn't put weight on. I think that was the year he broke his leg as well so that brought a halt to the back row plans then Agar basically played him in every possible position just so he wouldn't have to play a youngster.

Always seems strange to me when people put things like this. Washbrook, Lee & Hall would have done the same.
Rich has more ability than those and more utility value, that makes him better and would rather discuss those qualities. It's not a competition about who bleeds blacker & whiter.

| Not many players are deserving of the 'FC Legend' tag, but Rich Whiting is well on the way to that accolade.

Didn't he break his arm and then, 2 games after he returned from that injury, broke his leg? (Or the other way around).
