| Quote: Mugwump "Eastmond is as much a scrum half as Long was when he signed for Saints. I suppose Kyle could move to six, but Pryce has that spot, and behind him there is Wheeler, who looks an amazing prospect.
We've got a pile of talent coming through in the creative positions. Matty Smith is out on loan and could return (his long kicking game is great, but he needs to get a grip of the short stuff). Wheeler looks the business. Then there's Lomax (another fantastic prospect) who can cover both six, seven and looked very good at full back against Wakey.
I'm glad Long's going. He still has a bit to offer, but the time for the kids is here. Long would only have hampered their progression, IMO.'"
I thought Wheeler was more of a 7 he looks a great prospect, Matty Smith is a young lad I rate, proved he can play at SL level too.

if lynch is coming in it should be to replace cusack or king as i think he is pretty much our worst prop this season with the exception of Moa who is a project'"
Exactly... but so far Cusack is going. Lynch is a very good player and would love to see him in a Fc shirt

If Eastmond is better, why is he not playing now?'"
Because he's been injured for a lot of the season,

| Quote: The Key "Fantastic signing for us. He and Horne should work very well together on papar but we really do need to sort out our tactics and gameplan for that partnership to work. Alot of people are talking about signing a new FB/6 but until Tony signs elsewhere we need to at least try very hard to sign him up.
We definately need a new centre. Whiting is doing very well but I would be much more comfortable if we had another centre there so that we have competition for places as I think that Yeaman is slacking in some games due to the fact he has no real competition for his place. I say that as I feel Agar is destroying Hall and I'm not sure he will recover.'"
Agreed.

| Good signing if we start playing like Saints do. If we keep to this years tactics, pointless.
Long likes to play lots of off the cuff stuff and could see him working well with Horne, Washy and Hall
Wouldn't read too much into Fitzgibbon and Long saying it was Richard Agar that persuaded them to sign. They will say what they are told and we know our coach is under pressure at the moment.

| If we can keep him fit I think he'll do a great job for us.

Of the main two kids out on loan I suspect it will be Scott Moore and not Matty Smith who will return. A pity, because Smith has done the business for Saints (he was VERY unlucky losing out to Long for our first GF defeat against Leeds. Given his excellent long kicking game - which failed us totally that night - he might well have given us a winning chance).
With his pace off the mark and step Wheeler looks a natural six/centre. He doesn't have the distribution or kicking game to be a good seven.

but its the wrong kind of prop. We carry on about our lack of impact then are saying another grafter forward is a good signing.
that saif if we kept moa, thackray, lauauki, dowes, maloney and signed lynch then that gives us good balance in the prop department.
this would mean getting rid of king though

| Note for stats people (Big Dave T).
Despite his age Long played 23 League games last season and has played 12 League games so far this season, not a bad apperance record.

Good to have options I guess, Saints problem will be that Pryce/Eastmond are the new halfback pairing then they could lose out on Smith who won't wait around for ever and if the centres are fit then when does Wheeler get a game?
