Give Horne a few weeks out and play Whiting at stand off.'"
Interestingly I spoke to Rich recently and asked him about where he would like to play and I mentioned stand off, he said he hoped his days of playing 6 were over!!

| Quote ChrisH="ChrisH"Spot on. And this is the biggest worry to me. Our , so called , dominant and feared pack don't actually seem to frighten anyone. Moa , O'meley , Radford and Dowes were so ineffectual today. Moa was poor and easily handled by an old and average Leeds 6. O'Meley looked slow and was never going to break anything whilst Radford and Dowes , well , all you can say is they tried hard. Manu has faded over the last few games , perhaps understandably , but Lauaki whilst playing relatively well for a few minutes is really a waste of space. That leaves a lot for Westerman , Tickle and Houghton to do. Amazingly it was our unsung backs that probably kept us in the game today though it was our left hand side which gave Leeds the invitation to get back into the game. Yeaman jumping out and missing and Briscoe , well what was he doing when BJB was scoring??'"
Agree with that summary in total. I thought Hame's first spell was very good but seemed to lose heart when he lost the ball (arguably in a two man tackle) at the start of his second spell. Moa was pretty poor and O Meley isn't fit. Westerman was easily our best forward. Yeaman has played well of late but had a poor match yesterday yet Agar decided it was 2 try Turner who had to come off for a spell.

| Quote hullbg="hullbg"Never going to happen whilst Agar is running the team. He would much rather give a failed pairing yet another try before sticking someone with a good pair of hands, a good rugby brain and a kicking game into the position.'"
In fairness (and I am a big fan of Whiting) when he had had the chance to play in that position in the past (only on a couple of occasions I can think of) he hasnt exactly stood out.

The only times I can remember this happening has been towards the end of a game when injuries have meant he's the only realistic option. For such a pivotal position, you need a run of a few games to build an understanding with those around you.

Seem to remember in 2005 he had a run of a few games in the half's but to be fair could have been when we had a number of injuries etc. Always thought loose forward was going to be his best position. One of the best jack of all trades I have seen wearing an FC shirt I think.

2005 was a long time ago. He's developed quite a bit as a player since then. I would agree that 13 is probably his best position, but I think he'd make a more than competent 6 if given the opportunity.

Dunno. We've never really had the chance to see. I'd say he could be as good, given the chance.
Westerman illustrates my point admirably though. When he first came some people were saying he was a waste of money, most said he wasn't performing and he looked a very ordinary player. Now he's had a bit of a run in the side, and a few games playing more of a ball-handling LF type of role, he's starting to look pretty good.

Indeed, and it is no coincidence that Westerman looks better when not being shut out by playing Fitz, I think a full season of Westerman playing the creative role will be great next season.

| I haven't seen Whiting play for a while before yesterday, and I thought he was very good. As an outsider I found his selection on the wing a bit mystifying. He reads the game well, has good hands and uses his brain more than the average player, but the one thing he doesn't have in his nal is blistering pace. Playing him on the wing, therefore, seems to leave you sort of strike-power when the ball goes wide and more importantly doesn't get the ball into the hands of your cleverest player often enough.
I'm not sure what his natural position is, but 1,6 or 13 seem most likely. Could do alright at centre as well, but generally the more inventive a player is, the more central I like to see them playing.
No gloating from me about yesterday, I thought both sides looked less than ordinary in patches and it came down to whose patches lasted longest. When Hull (first half) nad Leeds "2nd half) did the basics properly, defences weren't really able to cope. Two clubs with great expectations and some serious issues to address this winter.
