I remember that day......like it was yesterday. Funny though.....I cant remember yesterday



I was 15 and stood at the Gordon Street end of Threepenny! I was living in the Station Pub in Pocklington at the time, and was staying with relatives that weekend! I had a brand new FC shirt and was really looking rorward to the game. The banter was 'loud' and (not being biased...honest) the KR fans I had met going into the Boulevard were a bit 'snarly' to say the least.....Even today...some of 'em are a bit like it now!!!! I remember seeing a bit of a scuffle on the Gordon street end terracing.....THEN.......It was like being a Donington Rock Festival.....But it was bricks flying about and not plastic bottles, burgers and sausage rolls!!!! I DO remember the bricks started flying from the KR fans. I'm not saying there was absalutely no retaliation though.....We too have our idiots!!!! So...after seeing a chunk of masonary hit a guy immidiately to my right, and busting his head.....we decided to vacate to the Airlie street end. There was no room in the stand so the stewards directed us onto the track......Thats where we watched the remainder of the game after the crowd had been 'settled' a tad!
The Robins edged the result.....It would've been a different if Woods had kicked a conversion.....But an unforgettable experience all round.
I also remember the Daily Mirror the next day....BLEEDIN' FRONT PAGE NEWS......The press love a bit of scandal

It made the main BBC news also.

I was 12yrs old and must confess I can't remember much of the game after it started as all I did was to keep watching the morons in red and white and dodge the bricks although by the end most of our shirts were red as well.

I was 10 at the time I was caught up in the thick of it with my best mate Rob Scholes we had captured some of the action on our iphones we just got instead of an easter eggs I will dig it out and upload on to utube, with the the Jams bricks n mortar as backing music, my favorite tune of the time. Scholesy got hit by a brick, he's not been the same since!!!!!!!!!!!

i support hull fc but i was part of the rovers colts side that played in the derby match before. we stood in the gordon street end after the game to watch the main match with our kit bags above our heads! alot of people got head injurys. not a good memory and to be honest somthing that should never happen in rugby league, i have friends and family at both clubs and find some fans behaviour unacceptable

I was about 13 and in the priviledged position of ball boy. I was on the verge of going over to the vicious mob and telling them to stop being silly or I tell the cheif steward..

..I had second thoughts on that and legged it into the changing rooms.

unfortunately its the same age group all over again at both clubs , the teenagers whom embarrass us all , all over the country too I may add!
The trip every year to Saints is a mare with the dicks at the back every single time we go ..
not rugby at all ,
Back in 81 I was one of those hit square on the nose by a rock whilst trying to stop the bleeding on a lady who was hit in front of us and still bear the scar to this day, ashamed that day , truly ashamed, same at Huddersfield as well!!

If you feel that you have been scarred enough to make a claim against the red and $hites i'm sure there is an accident lawyer somewhere round here?

A group of us were stood on the rubble that was the higher terracing at that end of the ground. I remember thinking "if this kicks off it could be really nasty". When the bricks started flying i gallantly fled in the direction of the turnstiles shouting "Every man for himself!" I gained alot of respect for the Coppers on duty that day, while i legged it out of the battleground, these Policemen were filling the no-mans-land that had developed between the two sets of supporters. "Rather you than me". As regards who started it, i witnessed the early exchanges but i think it's fair to say that morons were wearing both clubs colours on that fatefull day. Never been so $hit scared in all my life.

Sad days, that was the same game a 50 something FC female spat on me and my 4 yr old and muttered 'red and white **nts and was bollocked big time by other FC fans who saw it. Lets hope we never return to such times (although we did come close walking back over the bridge after the very first KC friendly, but they were just kids)
