| Quote: Jake the Peg "Great first hour but not so good in the last 20, due in part to the lack of back row interchanges - pritchard was knackered and really needed to be off the field which left our left edge looking a bot soft defensively. Also thought we really lacked a bit of leadership in that last 20 and gave the ball away too easily, however the game was won so it's not fair to be too critical.
Manu was a beast in attack and defence and no coincidence that we were better with him on the field - hopefully it wasn't anything serious. Was minichello injured? He hardly seemed to get any game time.
Still some work to do on our edge defence but good signs with ball in hand and I'm keen to see how we do against a better team next week'"
Cats be better defo. But in fairness salford didn't do much wrong at all, few errors etc but we built most our scores, wasnt just a case of poor attitudes or woefull misses by them. That's why I'm optimistic. Think on dry tracks they'll be a tougher opposition. Some good looking players for them. Murdock masila looks a good signing for them

| Quote: Hasbag "I was impressed with how much stronger our lads looked in the collision compared to Salford. They hardly ever sat our players down on first contact. We were still driving forward for yards and sometimes just having to take the tackle stood up because they couldn't put our players down (and not just the forwards but the backs too).'"
Fonua n Tala are massive in this department . Play the ball fast as well. Houghton ran a couple of times off it. Other times the forwards hitting the ball up against a defence still getting back. Absolute monsters the pair of them

Yer good point. Its nice to see them scoring points, +40 in the last three games (I know two were friendlies), but it would be good if they can knuckle down on the defense again.

| It's the first game of the season, so it's not a time to get carried away just yet.
That said, our attack was unrecognisable from the past two seasons. Our pack was not just dominant, they were more in total command for the first 60 mins. We had offensive structure and flair.
From the second Tommy Lee was sin binned and we should have really turned the screw, we appeared to put the cue in the rack. But, you know what, we were 42-10 up at that point, first game of the season, some of the forwards were clearly "fatigued" at that point. No point in over doing it and risking injury when the game was in the bag.
I really hope some of those in the crowd and those who were not convinced enough to attend, see the improvement in what was happening on the field and come to attend going forward.

Yes agree too many missed tackles, but early days and overall a much improved performance. Actually came home on the M62 smiling for once.

| Really impressive start last night. Plenty to work on, but the foundations are there for something potentially very special.
I felt that even before Shaul's try we had lost our shape. It was almost like things were too easy and we went a little every man for himself rather than sticking to the things that we have been doing in training. This happens often in games against lower league opposition. You get to the point where you feel you can score at will and go away from the things that got you to that position. When Salford finally started taking the game to us we struggled to respond because we were mentally already in the showers. That we had a makeshift partnership on the right wing and were also without Manu also really affected us I think, but it doesn't really matter.
I thought for a first hit out Talanoa was outstanding, and he will score bag fulls of trys outside Tuimavave. Bowden was the pick of the props with Green not too far behind. This was the most pleasing thing for me. Thompson did enough to keep his spot. Pritchard is going to be a firm fan favourite, but for me the pick of the debuts was Manu. Doesnt give an inch with out without the ball. When him and Ellis are on the field together there will be some sore bodies in the opposition.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| We only managed to score more than 42 points once last season, I forget who it was against.

| It says something about the quality of our pack now when the the quietest two were Watts and Mini.
Just shows what competition for places and a new contract can do when you look at the current form of Bowden and Green.
Big test next week against a much better team.

All men are created equal, some work harder in preseason.

| Bowden and Green look like different players, our pack was brilliant. And losing our shape is to be expected in that sort of game, and at the beginning of the season. We've looked much, much slower on first games of seasons before.

| Bowden was outstanding. Hopefully he will remain injury free and earn another contract.
