Got to say that I am not overly excited by this appointment. I feel that it is an indication that the board is doing things on the cheap, yet again. That said I will give Agar and the team my full support and wish them every success.
I suppose we will never know if Hull sounded out Folkes for the vacant job, but either way I feel that it is an opportunity missed. Agar has bags of potential, and every coach needs to be given a chance at some point, but with Folkes we would have had a tried and tested coach. If he comes over to the super league at some point I believe that he will be one of the most experienced coaches to every come to the league. And I think that is what we need right now. It is not every day a top coach with bags of experience comes on the market and I really think that we have missed the boat on this one.
I am also surprised people are happy just because the players like Agar. If I was on the board the thought of who the players may or may not like would not cross my mind. The players are obviously going to say they like him as it is a case of better the devil you know.
This is not a rant about Agar, as I do believe that he has the potential and will hopefully deliver the goods. But I do think that the board has yet again been short sighted with this appointment.
Here’s hoping that I am proved wrong and the board have made the right appointment.

On the other hand, moving Hall to the left had given our most dangerous winger - Raynor - more and better quality service than he's had since joining the club. Moving Yeaman back was a backward step IMO.

Richard Agar is a young British Coach who has been groomed by Hull FC for this moment.
Why are people surprised ? When Kear went, Agar was not ready .
He now obviously feels he is ready. If an Aussie had come in he may of wanted Agar out . Hull must think highly of him.
I for one am pleased we have chosen the British option and not gone for the "panic" Big name Aussie. People moan and groan about GB being unable to compete internationally. They never will if the Brits are not given a chance . This is also what the Franchise era is about . Young British players and Coaches entering into the fray , instead of highly paid Aussies or New Zealanders milking Clubs for their retirement fund.
Hopefully Hetherington will give Agar the Finances to bolster his squad for 2009 .
On Sunday in defeat we played more Rugby than we had done all season. His style must differ from Sharp`s.
With R.Horne , Dykes , Motu , Whiting , King and Berrigan on the field we would have beaten Saints.

And pray tell how many times has Hall passed to Raynor this season? Most of Raynors tries come from kicks because of our inabilty to bring the backs into the game.

So far Agar has done little wrong for me as he has had little time to and it made a change to hear the coach of our team pin point the areas he thought we were weak in and actually sound like he is capable of addressing these etc instead of the usual "we were patchy", "got babies playing" etc no disrespect to Sharp.

I agree to some extent and understand what you are saying. But Folkes is a proven coach with bags of experience. He would not have been a panic appointment and would have been able to develop the local lads within our squad. This could potentially had a positive knock on effect for England.
Don't forget, he would not be coming here to make a name for himself and then bugger off, he has been there, done it and got the t-shirt. |

Ahh the anti Aussie/ NZ bit - well if he's "up and coming" and "British" he must be right for the job! Silly me i must bare that in mind next time i do some external recruiting! |
