I have no problem what so ever with the family's colour, creed or history. Had my much loved brother died in such circumstances, I don't think any amount of money would compensate me. I would be devastated and angry but justice cannot be bought.

The situation [sizeIS[/size appalling, but at the time, there were calls for compensation for suffering etc. My point is: grief should not have a price.

Wharfedale you seriously cant try justifying your ill placed comments after you have had stick! To be honest NOTHING surprises me with Blunderside police anymore, i lost all faith and confidence in the police years ago and they have done nothing to restore that. Its a real sad story from start to finish for a man who represented his country, which is more than most do!

What have the Police done wrong in this body mix-up? I would assume this disgrace is the fault of either the Local Authority or the Hospital Mortuary, probably both.

The funeral didn't take place imediately after the death but some months/years later IRC. If the family did not request a viewing pre funeral or was advised against it or request any special 'clothing' arrangements then there is the possibility that the deceased would have been kept in the mortury and transfered to coffin around the time of the funeral. This would involve hospital/Funeral Directors transfer papers and a cross reference to an ID Braclet/name tag. It is possible that the deceased was never actually viewed fully pre funeral. Hard to believe I know but a possibility.

rlThe £22000 just awardedrl is in respect of the original mistreatment in police custody which led to the death, not this latest revelation.

Frankly, I'm amazed a) at the paucity of the payout and b) that it's taken 10 years to happen!
