| A succesful season imo is at least being contending one of the major finals on offer. We look only marginally (admittedly raised our game in a couple of games) better overall than last year. Losing to some of the lesser clubs (no disrespect but with our set up we do have advantages over a lot of clubs) is more frustration than anything else, is the playing standard on a downhill slope?
If we class a top 5 or 6 finish as succesful then our ambitions really are too low for a SL operation of our size. Already for next year we look in no better position than where we are now. Some people may see this and due to the lack of ambition, maybe not bother taking up season pass sales, sponsorship etc. Wigan will kick on no matter what tactics they pursue, Wire are on the up, Saints new stadium will be like breath of fresh air to them and Leeds are always going to be thereabouts in the foreseeable future. Clubs like ourselves, Huddersfield, HKR etc will continue to make the numbers up.
Ateotd, the core support want success on the pitch. The club are in a win win situation at present, 12,000 fans through the gate and no success yet still producing a profit? Surely with better recruitment on the coaching and playing roster and within the terms of the salary cap success helps mantain profit? Hull FC's problem is they dont have the relationship and contacts who can speak on behalf of the club and entice prime career players and coaches to the club.

| I'd be happy if we finish 4th-6th and win 1 playoff game.
a limp slip down the table to 6th and a playoff defeat won't fill me with much optimism for 2011 though

Correct on every count sir.
We should be in the playoffs without question, but losing early on is just poor and no amount of spin can disguise that.
Hull FC should be better than that

| Our likely finish at the moment is 7th and then away to KR or Huddersfield. Quins are always a problem for us , Crusaders will believe the points are there for the taking and Wire and Leeds , well we're relying on them being distracted. Although we'll get Fitz , Ogre and Long back Ogre will not be match fit straight away and Long's had such little game time he'll be rusty too. Getting any points will be tough. It's not exactly like we have momentum.

| It'd be interesting to know how season ticket holders would feel about renewals if the scenario outlined in the OP happened?

| We are 5th with every chance of going back upto 4th, if Wigan turn Leeds over...
What amazes me after a loss is the change on this board, even though we are 4/5th we are ....Thank feck this board only represents a VERY small minority of the faithful....
The season [uhas [/ubeen a success considering we have played the majority of the season without h/backs, I expect to win a least 1 play-off game (possibly more if h/backs are on the pitch)
Next season I would like to see more consistency.

I don't think we will, but if we do then we will have done better than would have been suggested looking at our squad on paper. As mentioned elsewhere, Wigan, Wire, Leeds, Saints, and arguably Hudds have better squads.

I think our squad is actually on a par with wigan's except that they are performing way above where you'd expect them to. We have plenty of good players, it's just we've not really hit any form. I know plenty of people point to the 1/2 back situation but we've been poor most of the season even with horne and/or long playing. Most other teams in SL (wigan apart I think) have played with only one of their 1st choice 1/2 backs for much of the season (burrow, eastmond, myler all injured, crusaders having one or both injured, wakey and rovers letting a 1/2 back leave etc).
When you look at it we have plenty of talented players, it's just that they seem to be injured or misfiring most of the time
