Quote: knockersbumpMKII "But you aren't a player and I guess you've never being an athlete in an elite situation or have had to perform multiple tasks in front of a live audience that is judging you at every moment? Your post is just inaccurate & wrong.

If a player [ineeds[/i vocal support from fans to somehow play better then there is something wrong! if you're listening to what's going on in the crowd you aren't focusing on your job 100%. And whilst in RL a player can turn to the crowd/hear the support that's at a down time. It actually has little if any effect on how a player then plays, you might have an instant feeling of being buoyed but when it gets down to the nitty gritty it means naff all, you don't hear the crowd/audience, you're concentrating on what's going on around you, focusing on what you're meant to be doing...or at least you should be!

Telling the fans they MUST actively show positive support because it will make us perform better is just inaccurate, as much as you and indeed athletes/players might think it does.
studies done in the US have shown that sports with vocal fans, teams often play better without the fans at all than with fans cheering (not that we've had much to cheer about this past 1.5 years anyway). The greatest effect is in fact when sportspersons are being boo'd or jeered, this has a negative effect on performance (So bullying tactics by coaches/parents DO NOT WORK)
Despite the evidence, both fans and athletes believe cheering/positive support helps, the hard facts show that it just doesn't.

That said getting fans to cheer/give vocal support when things aren't going well is a difficult thing to do, I'd say Hull fans have done more than most over the years but that effect is just primarily on the fans themselves. Of late the fans aren't cheering, they are so fed up with how things have gone backwards that it seems futile to even raise a rendition of 'old faithful'.'"

Fair enough if evidence is that it doesn't impact directly on performances on the day. However, there are some qualifiers.

One report showed that the density of support is important and home advantage is actually increased if the crowd is more densely concentrated. Which it obviously isn't at the KC, quite the opposite.

As you say, booing has a negative effect, and there have been pockets of this at both the last couple of home games. So rather than supporting, the crowd are detracting.

I think you're suggesting that silence/zero attendance would be as effective on impacting the team as having a packed vociferous crowd which may be true on matchday. But beyond that, to feel a connection with the club, surely a positive relationship with the fanbase is a good thing? We're part of a club, right? For quite a lot of fans that goes deeper than a third party transaction with a leisure provider like Odeon cinemas. Fans demand of players effort and passion/pride/commitment to the shirt regardless of form and we know there are players (at all clubs) who play with injections/against medical advice etc. My personal view is that, hard yards as it is, players demonstrating effort don't deserve booing, or slating on social media, and with that effort we should "have their back". Not blindly defending the indefensible, but demonstrating some basic respect when they're spending their lives training and playing to represent the club many of us have belonged to for months/years/decades and putting the effort in.

At a bit of a tangent, it's quite interesting to think about the segmentation of our fanbase and the proportions that sit within it. I guess the spectrum runs from those who are supporters but don't attend games (I'd count my pensioner mum in that group), to those who go if we're in good form and have nothing else to do, to those who go to the majority of games, to passholders, to those following home and away. I get the sense that the last group holds up reasonably well in terms of numbers over the last few years, but there's been a slide through the the rest. The primary reason is performance (and a promise high-deliver low record under AP) but is there also something around the way the club interacts with the fans? I'd put myself in the last group, but am I just a "loyal customer"? I feel a greater connection than that as it's been my #1 non-family/work interest of the past 26 years, but is there any reciprocity? Tbh I'm not sure what this would even be as I don't hear about great things other clubs do, but to regain fans whilst performances need fixing as top priority a more sincere relationship and realistic communications are also needed.

Pretty mixed near us. Teenage lads behind with middle aged couple, family in front with kids 10ish, plus grandparent. Difficult to tell as the family area which I think was relatively popular is in the West Stand where the cameras are.

Our neighbours are offering free tickets to the challenge cup tie against wigan, for all fans who were present at the thrashing at wigan.
A decent gesture. IMO.

They allow kids of 10 to watch that! Shame on you, they'll be scarred for life.

It's decent PR, but cute to require a ticket then wait three days to announce it. AP did similar after our Huddersfield game but announced the next day.

Schucks.
We've even let our kids out go to a CC final at the fine Millenium Stadium.
A Grand Final at the grandiose Theatre of Dreams and even a couple of trips to the new Wembley Stadium.
All in the last ten years as well.

Quote: easthull fc fan "Of course I do, I'm a season pass paying supporter who wants to see us play to our strengths, we have played terrible in execution but I'm pleased with our defence 90% of the time, I would have played Abdul In Westys absence, as for yeamo he gets the defensive part right 9/10 times, his attacking flair is very poor at times but we don't have an attacking centre who reads opposition attack like him so I see why he plays him in a fashion, if you look at sariginson for Wigan he gets it wrong a very lot in defence but gets the attack right & has pace outside of him, I think we carry more pivots on the bench because of our poor attacking style for more available options, our current performances are poor for several reasons, I see Houghton as a pit pony but lacks the smartness to spot/create we have an old head in Pryce who can get us where we want on the field but Sneyd needs to execute better with his kicks, Westy is the link to the fringes & when this happens with our first choice back rowers on we can do damage, when you get in the oppositions 20, the best 3 options are no one remembers the decent performances like at home to wire, they just remember the 2points lost, & in a season with P & R with other decent teams after the same thing we need all we can get, so rather then bitch on here about any of our staff not just LR which changes nothing on the pitch, I turn up & support the cause I have since I was 13.'"

Absolute b****y nonsense. That has specifically and consistently been referenced, including in the last few days, as an example of what a lot of we fans want to see and how accepting we can be of defeats providing they are in the right manner. I try not to engage with you much because I think it's largely a wasted exercise, but I have to point out that this comment is indicative of why I can't ever take you or the bulk of your posts seriously. You are (understandably) incredibly one-sided in a lot of your views, and in order to continually defend Radford and his role in the current state of things you come out with a lot of simply fictional claims.

Personally, I think that if you honestly consider Radford to be doing a good job and the club/Pearson to be doing the right things, you should be able to make cases for them fairly easily without continually making things up.

Oh, and also on a similar theme, I don't think it shows anyone in a positive light when you suggest that people wouldn't be willing to tell Radford what they think to his face because he'd thump them. Firstly because it shows a primitive mentality from yourself, and secondly because it suggests that you don't give Radford the credit of being able to rebut any criticism or stomach it. (Personal insults are different, but a lot of what you and Hokeydokey latch onto on here are not actually what you claim.)

Quote: Mr. Zucchini Head "Developing players isn't simply a case of giving them debuts. It starts when they are 13 or 14 years old (at least in terms of involvement of SL clubs). Most of the kids in the 19s who are so lauded now were already involved at the club when Gentle came in and certainly before Radford took charge. We won't really start seeing the benefit of Pearson's investment and the effect of the coaches for another couple of years yet. Radford and Gentle have played a part in their development of course. But a good player is a good player regardless. Who knows if this is simply a good batch or if it's down to improvements to the youth system?

Also, just because Radford says Gentle wanted to sign Youngquest (who knows how true that story is?) it doesn't mean Lineham was "about to be binned off." He might have just had to wait a few months longer for his chance. Oh and Green might have been born in Leeds (not entirely sure if that's even true), but I played with him as a kid, he's spent most of his life in Hull. He was playing for Skirlaugh when we picked him up.'"

I agree. Obviously to many it's now desirable to paint McRae as a complete villain and blame him for most of our woes, but the fact remains that his 2 spells at Hull have coincided with our youth setup improving, and it was pants in the interim. I personally find it hard not to see the 2 as linked.

There's also a massive difference between young players making their debuts, and young players looking ready for their debuts. As much as Gentle is also a target for allegedly not wanting to play youngsters (something we only have the current setups claim for), the only hard evidence available to us is that he did play them, and a considerable majority of them did not look out of their depth when they came in (I'll make the obvious point - dream team). I remember very few looking out of their depth. Radford has since been bestowed this role as champion of the youth system despite the fact that he only looks to them when he has no choice, drops them again pretty much as soon as he can, and some of those who came in under Gentle and looked ok look worse now.

There's been some massive propaganda gone on over the last 18 months IMO.

Quote: Mr. Zucchini Head "I wasn't really referring to that direct point. All I'm trying to say is that we have a good batch of youngsters at u'19s level, but how much is that to do with the investment and the coaching and how much is it to do with it being simply a good batch? The mark of a good youth set up is when good players emerge year on year.'"

Again, a good point I agree with. Over the last decade or so we have IMO often mistaken a competitive U19s side for a strong youth system. The core purpose for a youth system is to provide the first team with players of high enough quality, and for the first team to then improve them further. For a lot of years we haven't actually seen this.

When have I ever said LR would punch someone? I said the personal slagging is out of order, the wire game was a good effort but we gained nothing from it, at the end of the season we won't stay in SL because we played decent against wire we will stay in with points picked up, & LR was u20s coach.

Sorry, I'll hold my hands up, I got your posts mixed up with others in the anti-tampering thread. I saw that you responded to it and didn't realise the initial post came from Legends and Icons. I apologise.

I agree about personal criticism being out of order, especially if people are doing it to him in the street etc. I also agree with Bombed Out though that things like this brought up on this board are not actually applicable to the vast majority of content on here.

The Wire game, that's not the point you made. You said no one remembers the decent performances, only the results. That's clearly not true. It has been specifically identified and used as an example of what we want from the team.

U20s coach, I see. When you said head I thought you meant running the youth side, which was supposedly Last.
