The players who do the 'game management' tend to be half backs. No mystery there. Ellis leads by example which is what good forwards do.

| Quote: Staffs FC "We were 16-0 up after 60 mins. Arguably we might have been more with better playmaking. The forwards set enough of a platform on Sunday to win the game but we didn't close the game out.'" Our forwards got bossed all game. We got piggy backed up the field by the ref and couldn't stop Moore offloading the ball. Bowden, Paea, Thompson and Tuson were terrible.

I agree to an extent, but surely as our captain and a player who has been there and done it all, he could see what was in the offing and instruct his team accordingly. Sure, he can't stop other forwards bouncing off tackles, or prevent a winger from throwing a ball into touch, but neither can a halfback.

That's not game management, it's fecking common sense. Ellis or anybody else, even me and you, could see that's what needed to happen. To an extent it did, we just couldn't defend.

| Christ, watching the game back (half p!ssed) there were some seriously missed tackles the last 25 mins.
Stilts was stood in the West central tunnel for the last 10 mins.
He had a face like thunder.

| Quote: Staffs FC "And one coach can get two completely different performances from the same players. Does he tell them to play cr@p one week and really go for it the next ? Or even tell them to go 16-0 up then chuck it all before the end of the game?
Of course the coach has influence but many on here want Tony Smith who was relegated with a poor Hudds side, did great work with Leeds and to start with Wire but is suffering this season because he's lost some serious talent particularly his general. Brian Mac didn't pull any trees up at London but is the main man now. I wonder what the difference there was ? Maybe he couldn't 'influence' his London players.'"
Yes, but the best coaches get more good performances than bad and that isn't happening at Hull currently. Like you, I don't know how much of this is down to radford but as he has never proven capable of coaching a side which perform consistently well, we can't rule out that it's down to him.
I'd take smith any day of the week over radford. i know someone who was involved at leeds when smith was there and the current culture at headingley was very much started by smith. I'd also take his record at wire over any Hull coach since bunting.
mcdermott I'm unsure about. I think he dropped on a great group of players and culture at leeds but he has had plenty of detractors amongst leeds fans along the way but a group who know when and how to win the big games which is what has seen them through in recent seasons.
The jury is out on radford for me. Far too early to say whether he'll go on to be a good coach or not or whether he's doing a good or an awful job at Hull.

The stats don't back you up. They couldn't get in our half for the first 10 mins of the second half.

| Quote: Rock God X "I'm almost certain he doesn't tell them to do that, but the fact that they [iare[/i doing it has to be, at least in part, down to the way he's preparing/managing them.
All we heard in the off season was how the players had the man they wanted in charge, how they were all going to play for him, and how the embarrassing defeats and poor attitudes were going to be a thing of the past. The reality, however, has been quite different to how the pre-season rhetoric indicated it would be.
I can't shake the feeling that we have another Richard Agar situation. The owner and (some) fans will call for him to be given time regardless of the poor results and lack of improvement in key areas, until we're in a situation that'll take years to recover from. There's a very real chance we could finish outside of the top 8 after sacking a coach who achieved two top 6 finishes and a cup final. Personally, I hope Pearson realises he's made a big mistake sooner rather than later and sets about trying to rectify it.'"
Good post.
