| Quote: knocker norton "We do need a playmaker as a matter of urgency in my opinion and having seen Nicklas play a few times I do not think he is that type of player. The pool of English playmakers is not too great so i would not be surprised if we look overseas for this.
That said I would be happy with the already mentionned Gareth Moore from Batley spending a year at Hull playing and training alongside the likes of Long and Fitz before they retire. He looks to have the attributes to be a Super League playmaker of the future I guess he just needs to be given the chance.'"
I would agree with that and would rather try and bring on somebody like Moore, our problem is that we can't seem to bring through the ranks a top quality 7, I have seen alot of Danny nicklas and he is a good running 6 however he is not the play maker and organiser we need, I hope he proves me wrong but I can't see it.

| Sammut would fit the bill really well, I would look to sign him up for 2-3 years. Big fan of what he can do, would be a good off-the-cuff replacement for Longy and also has experience playing at FB if needs be.
His twitter last week said "Jus had a ver VERY interesting phone call. Hmmm!". Let's hope it was RA on the other end!

He also said he wants to be back in australia next year on his twitter. He would be decent for a year untill we got somebody else.

I'm not keen on the idea of us signing anyone for just a year. We need to build something long term.

I agree, but if that's the only option we may as well take it and offer an extension in due course.

I agree with you learn all the plays etc with him for a year and then it's all change again the year after no consistency, that's why I would rather us sign somebody like Moore and bring him on, with the aim of him been our first choice 7 for the long term!

I would rather future Aussie recruitment is advised by someone out there who watches NRL and the level below on a regular basis, and knows how to spot a talent. Although we've not done badly, our recruitment seems to have been based on who is well known through Sky etc coverage

That would be a good idea, however I still think quota places should be for top quality players like o meley fitz berro etc instead of just an average player or somebody from the lower grades in that case I would rather use the guys we have in the reserves instead.

| If the JBJ and Sammut rumours are true, I'd be dead pleased, but only if they intended to stay for more than a year. We don't want to be giving 30+ aged players 3 year contracts and under 24 aged players 1 year contracts!

on the contract front it wouldnt make sense, however i can't see the BJB rumours been true before Brian McDermott went to Leeds I would be more inclined to believe them but McDermott rates him highly and I would expect him to get a fair bit of game time.

Yes you do and have done for a number of seasons now. At this stage of the season the club should not be running around like a headless chicken seeing who is available in such a crucial position. There is such a thing as 'planning'; most good businesses do it! IMO the FC Board is abysmal and the only thing they care about is breaking even. Even the most ardent/loyal fan must feel frustrated by the poor management and lack of ambition continually shown by the club. The fans deserve more. I hope you do obtain a good play maker, however I feel this will be achieved by good luck rather than planning and foresight!

I think it's wrong to say the board are 'abysmal' - there are areas of the club that are managed very well indeed. Unfortunately, the playing side of things is not top of this list.

I agree with you in some ways; however the consistantly high attendance figures and the fantastic stadium/hospitality facillities available, ensure that on many fronts the Board is already onto a winner.
Unfortunately for the fans the attraction is on the pitch not off it and I think the Board need to reward the fans instead of taking them for granted.

I think we've been rewarded in recent years with some fantastic signings from the board, the likes of Jason Smith, Richie Barnett Snr, Tony Grimaldi, Richard Swain, Stephen Kearney, Mark O'Meley, Craig Fitzgibbon, Willie Manu, Danny Tickle, Tom Briscoe etc.
However I take your point that they haven't delivered a organiser since Cooke left. They've tried and failed on a number of occasions and it certainly should have been addressed by now. I'm led to believe that for 2012 when were in a much better position due to player movement this is finally going to be addressed, let's hope so. I think that's the reason why we are only on the look out for somebody for a season or a cover in the halves for this season.

| I'd be very happy with BJB and Sammut both for a year. Tansey could play hooker with Houghton if required although BJB could play anywhere in the backline and Sammut would offer vital halfback cover. I think Hull already have a halfback target for 2012 so Sammut for a year would fit perfectly.
