I'd see it more as '[ishould[/i be gone', rather than '[iwill[/i be gone'. I've no confidence that if we finish between 6th and 8th next season he'll lose his job.

| Quote Jake the Peg="Jake the Peg"We need to bring in a coach/DOR who has carte blanche to completely change the playing side of the club from top to bottom. It won't ever happen under the current regime'"
But that begs the question, "who do we replace them with", it's been interesting to see L**ds recruitment on the coaching side in the off season, as much as Last is a decent guy (and no, that isn't the swear filter) I think a problem is he hasn't really achieved anything, likewise Agar.
Whatever we think, we will be watching "Agar's FC" at least until the end of the season, franchising has seen to that, and as I have said before, who would we bring in:
Noble
McNamara
Harrison
no thanks
RG is right, the Featherstone connection is strong.

I'm [ireasonably[/i confident that if we have another season like last (no cup run, lower end of the playoffs and an early exit) then his time will be up. The BOD aren't completely clueless regarding the eventual impact on club turnover of failing to challenge year after year.

I'd like to think you are correct. I'd like to, but...
I can see the same old excuses being trotted out for our lack of achievement, together with a firm assurance that Rich will have it all sorted for the following season.

I've been saying this for years, there's a real 'jobs for the boys' culture at the club. As you say though it's unlikely to change. If someone were to buy the club tomorrow and have a clean sweep of all all the youth, coaching, fitness and physio staff I reckon there's only Webster who would be likely to get another job at a SL club.

Yep, I know I can't back it up as it's just a feeling but I can see the Berrigan situation used as an excuse if needed, for some reason his position seems safe regardless, The timing of Agars extension last season said it all to me, I know we ended up doing ok last season but we were playing some real dross at the time, that on the back of the two poor previous seasons it just seemed criminal, the only possible justification was the reported England interest, but that was still a weak case.

I mentioned the other day that the Westerman signing worries me in this respect too. Agar knows we desperately need cover in the halves so what does he do? Goes and spends a 6 figure sum on strengthening arguably our strongest position in the team. Bearing in mind that Fitz will be gone after this season, that looks very much like the signing of someone who knows he'll be here in 2012.

Or, the signing of someone who recognises how infrequently talent like Westerman becomes available, and is guided by the administrators of the club in his selection?

| Quote PAUL M="PAUL M"I don't stick up for Agar I just look at it from a balanced perspective and there are things I think he has done well and things I want improved. You can moan on here all year long it won't make a bit of difference to Agar being employed with us or not.
Brown and Maguire were not classed as top quality coaches, no matter how you dress it up. One had constantly failed with a top class team and the other had only ever been a number two. If we had announced either one of them it would have been met on here with 'who' 'what have they ever done' etc etc. There is no guarantee when bringing over players or a coach and sometimes a less known name might be a better option as they have something to prove.
So who would you replace Agar with?'"
Daniel Anderson, or Steven Folkes.

Quite possibly. I'm just saying that if I were Agar and I felt under real pressure to produce the goods next season or face losing my job,and I knew I had a significant transfer fee to spend, I'd be doing everything in my power to spend it on a halfback rather than strengthening our strongest position. It's just a theory but I don't think it looks good.

maybe it wasn't agars choice to bring westerman in? If Kath Hetherington got wind that westerman was available she perhaps saw it as an opportunity too good to pass up

| Quote PAUL M="PAUL M"When Brown came over he had very little pedigree and would not have been hailed as a great capture by the board. He had a fantastic squad to work with at the Dragons but never produced. Maguire may have been at the best club around but that is largely down to the fact that Bellamy is regarded as the best coach around along with Bennett. There were no certainties about how he would perform. Daniel Anderson was another when he came to Saints.
[uSo yes I can say with great certainty that either of these two coaches will have been met with some apprehension by the fans as neither came accross with top billing.[/u
You never quite know how things will turn out, plenty of aussies have come over and failed. Yes there are potentially better coaches around than Agar and my belief is that a new head coach along with a new backroom team is what is needed for us to compete for silverware. The fact is however that Agar had to get the team back in the playoffs last season and he did. He now has to improve us again and if not he will be gone.'"
exactly as i had been trying to point out!!!
