| I don't think the council could, in their wildest dreams, have imagined that it'd be as popular as it was, particularly on the opening and closing nights. Some teething troubles were to be expected.
Loved the light show, the shop fronts down Whitefriargate, The Deep & Humber Street. The rest I wasn't that enthralled with but each to their own.
Thought there may have been a set up for food/drink stalls like at Humber Street Sesh/Freedom Festival but not sure whether that's the council's doing or not.
Walked past a few cafes that were closed, if I'd been the owner I'd have made sure we were open.

| It's great to see our City getting some good coverage in the national media, (apart from The Sun's hatchet job).
Although there are things that are far from perfect I'm proud to say I'm from Hull. A lot of people who give Hull a kicking have a pre-conceived bias or have never stepped foot here.

Agree with that MB.Would also like to add that some of the additional "kicking"is coming from our own people of Hull.
Some friends and acquaintances of mine are still coming up with negatives ,having a pop at the fireworks , light show, the deep and now the blade.Seems some people have to moan to be happy, bit like on here really. Some dont want Hull to take its rightful place as one of the best places to live and are happy to go along with all the other pre conceived ideas that are peddled about by scum like the Sun.
"garlic bread",whatever next.

| I am very proud that my home town has been named as the city of culture,so why is it,that the correct name of the city is not being used,KINSTON UPON HULL.after all,Newcastle is not referred too as TYNE,nor is Stoke refered too as TRENT,so come on hull city council,if you are proud to be the city of culture, use the cities correct name,KINGSTON UPON HULL,it sounds more cultured, than just HULL.

Agree with the sentiment but in all honesty how often is Newcastle referred to as Newcastle upon Tyne and Stoke referred to as Stoke on Trent today? Not very often. In all fairness if you said to people around the country where is Kingston upon Hull they'd be scratching their heads, whilst it may sound a little more cultured its about the City and its people and very very few refer to it as anything other than Hull. Guess its just a sign of the times.

Because nobody refers to it as "Kingston Upon Hull", indeed, to be truly correct they should also lose the "H".
I'm quite happy with the city being referred to as Hull.

Got to agree. It was bizarre how many business owners did not take advantage of the fact 100,000 people, many of them families were in Hull on Saturday night. The fish and chip shops were doing a roaring trade. Alight, nobody could have predicated that number, but as the week went on they should have antcipated it been an opportunity.
It's a frustration of mine. You hear constantly how the high streets are dying. I work in business services. Simply put, provide a service people want, when they want it and adapt to their needs, which are constantly changing. Most people work during the day, people internet shop or go to the Supermarket because the local places are not open when they are available. Try buying local fruit and veg, or sausages from your local butcher after 6pm on a weeknight.

| Why does everyone need to eat and drink when they go to this type of event?

Start saying Kingston and most people think of Kingston upon Thames. Frankly there are welcome to the Kingston name - far too royalist. I'd much rather Hull was remembered for telling King Charles to go forth and multiply.

We went on Thursday night (4 adults and 2 kids) and were absolutely amazed with everything. We were lucky while going down Whitefriargate as Couplands were open (this was after 8 o'clock) and they were doing hot snacks and hot drinks. Very welcome on a cold night and full marks to the staff (both of them) who were doing a terrific job. We don't live in Hull any longer but we'll certainly be coming in regularly throughout the year to enjoy what, so far, has been brilliant.

Certainly is amazing Pete the sheer size of it. I am proud to say my company were tasked with setting up a weighing system for Siemens in the factory to weigh these things as they come out of production. After spending two full days working alongside two of these in the factory you still cant get a perspective just how big these things are.

Spot on MB. I'm not from Hull, I come from Sheffield for all the home games and most away. Only been a fan since 2011 but from the start fell in love with the city of Hull and its people. It does get negative press no doubt and I get really p'd off now when I hear some comments as you say from people who know nothing about the place. I've gained new friends in the East Stand who've welcomed me with open arms. As an outsider who can't really sing Scotty Taylor he's one of our own I want to say you should have a lot to be proud of. Hull is a great city and the people of East Yorkshire are warm, friendly and honest, you call a spade a spade as we do in Sheffield. Hope this doesn't come across as patronising, its just my honest thoughts.

We're happy to have you in the black n white family . Nice to hear someone from outside hull defend it. And as part of the old faithful you have every right to sing he's one of our own to scotty taylor as far as I'm concerned.
