30596_1286642206.jpg If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

| As a Rovers fan I've really enjoyed watching Richard Horne play.
I think in his early career he was chronically under used by Great Britain.
He came on as a substitute in about 2004 (was it?) in the the Three Nations Final, at Elland Road when the game desperately needed the touch and verve he'd shown throughout that year. And we stuck him on the wing.
A marvellous servant to your club, I'd agree he won't go down as one of your greats.
Could turn out to be a really good coach, made the most of what talent he has and appears to really understand the game.
Applause to him.

| Loyal, yes. Great, no.
Sorry, he just didn't make the leap from being a great prospect. I suspect for the last 5 years, only his local-status kept him at the club.
Give him an Aussie accent and a tan and he'd have been hounded out years ago as a "waste of a quota space".

| Great service and career with Hull. Good pro never in the limelight for the wrong reasons. Must have been tough playing on after a serious neck injury and strength sapping illness but he did so to a high standard. Good luck to him in his future work wherever/whatever that might be.

It does. An FC great without a shadow of doubt.

We have had plenty of aussies with big names, not fit to lace Hornes boots. He has been a great servant for the club, and in the last 5 years, has been nowhere near the worst issue we have had at the club.

Not really. Not at all really. A lot like me can see whats in front of me n not allow myself to be influenced by those around who tend to know the least but shout loudest.
Never seen a player so quickly turned on within seasons. He can play 5good games n get begrudging credit. Have a bad 1 n it takes 5 more games to get any credit again.
Obvious to anyone who knows anything about the game he's been paired with the worst playing style's of half backs since cooke left. He's had some rubbish teams to try work with n had some hard times injury wise. Yet when he had a decent off season an a decent run last yr he won player of the month twice in first three months n was coasting assist charts till injury at magic. Yet hes been rubbish for 7 yrs??
people seem to be convincing themselves he wasnt that good in his early days. He was. Watch some vids. Talk to some pro players.
Should of always been a fullback for me though.
Hope he can finish strong!

| A great servant to our club, to play at the level he has for so long through injuries & illness shows how professional he has been, a record breaking legend.

| Whilst i agree he has been a good club-man for us, the term "great" does not sit well with me about Horney. He's probably been the best of a bad bunch at the club most of the time he's been with us but that alone does not make you a great! Got to agree after the Cooke era he never looked the same player to me and personally thought he went missing in big games against big game opponents. Its not that Rich never gave any less than 110% for us its that unfortunately for me he just at times was not good enough to outshine classier players. Still i wish the guy all the best for the future as like i said he's been a good club-man.

I wish him luck in his future endeavours and look forward to him progressing his coaching ambitions.

Good summary.
"Great ambassador" would be a tribute I guess no-one could dispute? And may he continue to be a great club servant.

| I think people have different ideas as to what constitutes great, and it's largely a pointless argument (obviously some cases will be more clear than others). Horne has been a very good player and an excellent clubman, is he one of our greats? Does it matter?
Horne is/was one of those players who excelled in the right circumstances, but struggled to impose his desired circumstances upon a game. Berrigan was much the same for us. There are arguments that that is a weakness or that it is beyond their control, but the bottom line is that it was just the way it was. When it went right it was a joy to watch, and surely that's why we all go?

| All the best Horney! Some great memories.
FC legend I don't think so. Just didn't have enough quality for me. No real loss.....
Enjoy retirement.

“We will not accept a top eight finish as a barometer of supposed success at any point in the future whilst I am the owner of this club.
Thats why you got the Bullet Agar...Adam Pearson wants winners...not useless gits like you.

| Been a great servant to the club during the super league era but the right decision to not re- new as his best years are now behind him....not been the same player from 2008 and Cooke leaving. Will leave us with some great memories not least the try v Bulls to get us going in the grand final eliminator.
