Agreed. Seems to be seen as some sort of uber-coach on the basis that he apparently did a good team-talk once, but his record is not that great.

| Quote: Large Paws "I wasn't using Radford's inexperience to excuse anything.
He is quite clearly out of his depth.
What I was trying to point out is that even, top coaches make mistakes. It was obvious to a lot of people that losing players of the quality that Wire have, would cause them problems, surely such a good coach would have seen it coming, and done something about it before it happened. Especially when they seem to have such spending power.
Leeds probably have adequate replacements coming through the ranks, Saints also have, they just had a gap between old and new.
Re Man Utd, Ferguson had seen it coming, that's why he left, and hadn't bothered to to do anything about it, because he knew he was leaving.
I fully agree that Pearson needs to do something, and now.'"
How do you know Wire don't have 'a gap between old and new'? Success goes in cycles, and very few teams are constantly at the top of their respective sports. Sometimes successful teams need dismantling and rebuilding.
And as for the bit about Ferguson, I'm sorry, but that's just nonsense. I don't like the guy, but there's no doubting the fact that he loves Man Utd. It's his club. The idea that he simply 'didn't bother' rebuilding the team because he wouldn't be the manager is laughable.

My thoughts behind wanting Kearney are that he is just one of those guys that everyone respects, and unlike Radford he doesn't have to intimidate his players to get them respecting him. He might not not be the best tactical coach, but of everyone who we might realistically get he is the most inspiring. I've spoken about attitude on this forum a lot, and I think he would be the most likely to improve the attitude at the club.
He coached NZ to a World Cup win and has worked with the very best in the game. The only blot on his cv is his time with Parramatta, but he had a hopeless squad of players. They won the wooden spoon the year after he left aswell.

| I personally believe Radford's days are numbered. Pearson stated after the disgraceful playoff loss at Leeds at the end of Agar's era that 'it would never happen again'. Well, it's not just happening again, but the club is in steady decline. The beatings at home to Widnes, Salford and Wakefield were as bad as anything we've recently served up in terms of demoralising defeats. The Wakey game seemed to be a watershed moment for fans and players...with the apathy shown against Wigan the result. This weekend is a MUST WIN.
Chopping and changing the team has left the players demoralised too. The thing which annoys me is Radford taking to the radio to say 'the players aren't doing it...there's a problem that's been here for years..etc etc'. Well Lee, you've been at the club since 2006....you've been a BIG part of that as a player and a coach.
We all wanted you to succeed. We all had hopes you could sign a top halfback, we all had hopes we could improve consistency, we all had hopes we would gain momentum through the season and play like a unit. He hasn't been particularly helped but he doesn't help himself either....fingers crossed we get a win on Saturday but I think it'll just paper over huge cracks!

| If Radford is going to be sacked any time soon then I can't see it being after the derby or even Leeds next week. Derbies are unpredictable at best and I don't think anyone is expecting us to beat Leeds. I think the earliest AP will pull the plug would be the London game if we were to lose that one.

| It's not knee jerk though. It'll be at the end of a long line of poor results
I'm willing to wait and see, but even if we win, I still think it's a stay of execution for him.

Just because a player is respected as a player doesn't mean they're any good as a coach, though.
He won the world cup when Wayne Bennett was helping him out. I personally wonder how much each of them did, as NZ have not been as good since IMO. It's also a bit strange to say that the only blot on his CV is the only true coaching job he's had, and the one closest in scope to what we'd want him for. We don't have players of NZ's quality, we're a club side who need a lot of work, just as Parra were and he couldn't do the job. Part of the reason they had a hopeless squad is also down to him spending far too much of their cap on one player in Chris Sandow.

| I'm probably totally wrong but I'd imagine we are a reasonably attractive proposition for a coach.
Reasonable crowds, fantastic stadium and improved training facilities combined with a fair amount put into the youth set up, plus we are apparently play at the full salary cap.
I'd try and lure Powell from Cas or look at Smith if he wants a new challenge.

| Thinking about it I'm leaning towards Smith purely because I think that he will be able to attract a better quality of player to the club than Powell.

You mean the one with Tony Smith the favourite to take over Radford?. I was wondering do William Hill know something we don't?.

Agreed but Powell has done a great job getting the Castleford players to up their game. We have some good players at the club and I do think that a few of them are not playing to the best of their ability. I'm not saying we'd suddenly jump into the top 4 or anything like that but someone like Powell might do a good job of getting our existing players to play better.
