| Quote: Standee "this kid has just won reserve player of the year, surely another season would have been worth our while?'"
If Tommy Lee had not been good enough to play in the first team I'm sure he would have won the reserve team player of the year. He is a lot better player than hodgeson but people don't care if he leaves.
Also the club did offer a new contract but rovers offered a better chance of playing first team.
The club cannot keep every player that comes through the ranks especially when it already has 3 better players in that position.
one minute everyone is complaining that we have too many average players next minute there complaining because we're letting our 4th rated hooker go. He has had his chance this year and has not stood out. I don't think I can remember a single thing he did, except getting pummeled pre-season against leeds.

Too true. If the club kept every player that the fans had some kind of attachment to, the squad would have about 200 blokes in it. The facts of the matter are we cannot keep every player that comes through the ranks.
What we ought to be making a fuss about is that our youth development is good enough to produce to players we can afford to release. The production of good talent is great for us, look at what's been left in the reserves; younger Briscoe, Reece Lynne, et al. This production line is part of the reason why we got an A grade license.
If Rovers are content in signing players who have come through Hull's ranks, then good for them.
Goodluck to Josh, if he's on a better deal and has the chance at more first team rugby.

| Why waste a wage on a player who would be third choice in his favorite position and even further behind in his other position. Hodgson and Houghton can't realistically be compared until Hodgson has had a decent run out at SL level.

| Quote: Smiggs "Hodgson is nowhere near as good as Houghton.'" agree. How people can use the arguement that he was reserve grade player of the year as reason to keep him is funny. Any other season with no first team injuries would have seen the likes of burnett, briscoe, hall etc all playing more reserve grade and josh wouldn't have stood out then. He's been in a poor team

| Only ever saw him as average tbh, he was way down the pecking order so it's not a major loss. It also helps to keep Rovers local players quota up, by signing yet another one from us

Came on here to see what you guys thought of Hodgeson and only read a few posts on here and just basically seen a lot of points scoring. So delving beneath that is this a win win deal, you've let go a promising youngster that you have other players to fill his position. We have got a promising young player that plays in a spot we need a bit more cover in.
I wouldn't be surprised if we isgn an older more experienced hooker (maybe on short contract) for next year and bring in Hodgeson slowly.
I agree you have a good hooker in Houghton, Berrigan I'm not so sure about in terms of fitness and longevity, I know you lot really rate him and I've only seen him in derbies and on sky, but I do getthe feeling that the emperor has no clothes in his case, but suppose we'll see how he goes post op next year.
To be fair for us to take players from your academy makes a fair bit of sense, they are generally young hull based lads so the logistics of any move are made far easier. I would expect as the years move on and we develop our academy sturcture I would expect to see a fair few move both ways.

I know where you are coming from Dave but I dont really remember DH being anything special at reserve grade (do have memory block now and again!). I suspect part of the reason he's left will have something to do with the 21's being 20's next year. Mind boggling decision by the RFL tbh. Leaves little scope for clubs really. Only two over age players will mean a lot of our first team sqaud will have very lttle game time and in that sense it makes sense for him and for us to part. I liked him as a player that wasnt affraid to try the unusual to find a winning play. He flunked a few but quite a few came off.
