Christianity: because you're so awful you made God kill himself.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_28995.jpg

Quote: east hull FC fan "It's fairly stupid to think that I said he should take it faultlessly every time, but there you go.

That incident replayed I would bet 8/10 times Pitts takes that ball, because he's trained to take it. If you're too stupid not to realise that's what I said, then that's not my fault, is it?'"

You said there was 'no excuse' for him not to have taken the pass. You're obviously being deliberately obtuse. Again. Enjoy yourself, but I've got better things to do than be dragged down one of your weird little cul-de-sacs.

Quote: Rock God X "The point is that one poster is saying that Pitts should have been expected to take the 'pass' because the team practise the technique in a training drill. This is obviously nonsense. The drill is practised to increase the chances that a player might collect a pass that is extremely difficult to take. This does not mean that a player can be 'expected' to take an ankle-height ball in the same way as they do when they're doing a training drill where they know such a pass is on the way.'"

I still think your point is invalid. A fullback will practice receiving bombs a lot. That doesn't mean that they will take every bomb faultlessly, but nor does it mean that if they drop one it's not an error.

The difference is, a full back is expected to take a bomb. It's their job to do so. One could reasonably expect a full back to collect a very high percentage of the bombs that come his way.

The same cannot be said for a forward running at nearly full tilt and trying to pick up a bouncing ball from his bootlaces. No one could reasonably be expected to catch such a pass with any degree of consistency.

I don't think it's as simple as that, it depends on the player in question. On another day, I do think Pitts probably has the handling ability to gather that.

I wouldn't expect it to be taken the majority of times though, I agree, but then I don't honestly think that that was what ehfc meant, either.

I think you can come out of hiding now Yeamo. It appears it was possibly Jay Pitts fault.

So what did you think he meant when he said he had 'no excuse' for not taking it? Or when he said that 'a professional player should be taking that pass, more often than not'? Or when he said he would expect Pitts to take the pass 8 times out of 10?

I just thought he was over-stressing his point.

It seems abundantly clear what he meant. There's no ambiguity. He says it should be taken in the majority of cases in three different ways.

Well I wouldn't agree with him on that. My initial disagreement was simply with your comment about practice being much easier in a way that seemed to me as if you therefore thought it was irrelevant. I thought it was relevant even if I don't necessarily agree that he should have been expected to catch it.

I'm on my third glass of wine and second bag of crisps. I'm debating whether to get a packet of winegums from the kitchen but I don't want to miss anything.

I was disagreeing with the argument that because the players practise that particular drill, Pitts should have taken the ball. Jogging back and forth whilst practising catching a ball you expect to be delivered around your ankles is appreciably different to running at full tilt and taking a ball that has already bounced at your feet in a game situation.

It goes without saying that everything is easier in training, but that only strengthens my argument that Pitts was in no way responsible for the break down of the move. I can see the point in defending Yeaman, but to try and shift the blame (or any part thereof) onto Pitts is ridiculous.

Earlier in the thread he actually said that pitts wasn't as equal in proportionate blame but to suggest Pitts should be taking that pass 80% of the time is unbelievable.

Don't disagree with that and never have.
