Quote: Sebasteeno "I blame the coaching. Weve actually gone backwards since last year if thats even possible. The players dont have a clue or indeed any interest either.
How do you know this if you didn't go last season?

For me the players arnt good enough
Here endeth the lesson on Hull Fc

but the coaching is also to blame, i mean what has Gentle actually done since he got here?
He has given a number of youngsters their debuts. therefore starting to alleviate the problems within the club.

We went on a bit of run at the beginning of the season but was generally playing poorly then we got beat by Rovers at the magic weekend and weve gone from bad to worse since with Gentle seemingly not having a clue on what to do about it.

We lost a couple of games by a very close margin. this coincided with injuries to key players and the disruption of some players announcing they are moving to pastures new. Poor performances all the same.

Todays side on paper looked a decent one but the performance was dire and it is week in week out.

Unfortunately we don't play teams "On Paper" We actually had to play Catalans on their ground and in high temperatures with a scratch front row and a makeshift backline.

Sorry guys but weve got the wrong man in Gantle

What's this "We?" I thought you'd stopped going/supporting?
'"

Right now, It's not what fans can see on the field, it's what's happening off the field that is important. Hull Fc have been underfunded in all area's of the club and the current regime are trying to rectify this.
Would you prefer a nice new gloss 'look' on its own or would you sooner have an undercoat and a quality finish?

I'm P!55ed off with the results of late but let's have some common sense and look at the bigger picture.

having read the last few pages there is plenty of good posts, for once people are talking common sense instead of the usual drivel people sprout about fc just slagging fc off and being ultra negative, yes we are going through a bad spell and sum dont seem to be playing to there full potential, but ffs lets try and get behind the team

Too right, look at Leeds and Wigan today, both have excellent youth set ups, we can't magic one out of thin air! It will take some time for us to get it right but I am confident we are heading in the right direction.

Quote: Jake the Peg "Bit harsh on gentle as he is working with a poor set of players and has had horrendous injury problems to contend with. Personally, I don't really think anyone can say at this stage whether he's a good or a poor coach and we won't really get an idea until the back end of next year IMO.'"

Correct. Impossible to get any idea what calibre of coach we have until he has something to work with and some time to work with it.

I do agree Kosh, but I still feel the fans will need a bit of positivity (be it good results or top signings) to get the crowd numbers there next season. This season has done little to silence the doubters.

Any 'supporter' calling for Peter Gentle's head twenty games into at least a three year re-build is an absolute idiot.

Still hacked off at a 30 point reverse, and I'd say that really we'd have had
McKinnon
Sharp
Martin (because Turner's been poor)
O'Meley
Houghton
Moa
Tickle

Who would have played if available. That said, although the bench was weak and I wasn't expecting a win, that squad should have got closer than 30 points. Things that worry me are:
Lack of runners. Many times today we were set up for an offload with not a support player in sight. Gentle said before the season started, you've got to have bodies in motion. Yet we don't.
Chronic lack of creativity, linked in part to the point above.
Slow PTB
Hugely inconsistent levels of application and appetite for a battle. Lynch, Whiting and Houghton set a great example but way too few followers.

Not sure what to make of it.

To put things into perspective even more; Leeds had Sinfield, Burrow and Mcguire together on the field for most of the match. These guys have come through the youth system and they know each others game inside out and it showed today.

Wigan on the other hand were missing Leuluai and a few of their forwards and it showed today.

Oh I understand why folk are getting frustrated. Not sure there's much that can be done about it right now though.

I know some people 'don't want to hear about injuries' but as well as the obvious effect on squad quality it means that Gentle has to keep picking the same players every week regardless of their performance or attitude. Makes it almost impossible to change things.

Wire got spanked there by a similar margin with a much better squad. I think sometimes people underestimate just how good Catalans are, especially at home at the height of the summer. That said, the performance clearly wasn't as good as Gentle wanted. Not sure what he can do about it while we have so few options about who to play though.

Think we've had plenty of positives this year.

Three points off Saints, Beat Leeds, Draw with Wire - been a while since took any points off top 4.

Gentle has gone through the squad like a knife through butter, don't hear any complaints about those shown the door.

Starting pack out O'Meley, Houghton, Moa & Tickle FFS - who could cope with that ??

Loss of fullback WAS under estimated so p'raps PG not perfect.

More youngsters blooded than in living memory - PG now well aware of which are up to it & will work to improve them. Plus academy now back on right foot.

AND we played much more attractive rugby, for a while !!

I too didn't renew my pass but have paid every week - not really bothered about this season - just view it as work in progress !

In AP. PG we trust.................................

I don't disagree that Catalans are a very good team, but we let them play on their terms. Scott Dureau played in a dinner jacket, we failed to challenge the kicker. There was one play about 13 minutes from the end where everyone sauntered about to form the scrum and Catalans were set first, not that they were rushing. Poor attitude to show the travelling fans IMO. The weather was no excuse today, was hotter when we played at Wakefield.
