Maybe. With the new stadium they're going balls out for a good year to secure another franchise. They've already signed a lot of players including Vinnie Anderson so will be a fair bit stronger next year and are maybe after a marquee signing to top it off. Didn't know whether that article was implying that Long was a target of transfer speculation per se or just in respect of Salford. The standard of journalism makes the HDM look like a broadsheet.  |

Sydney Police are expected to reveal several high profile players involved in a betting sting once the grand final is over on Sunday night. Barnett is convinced after watching video footage of one of the games in question, there has been illegal betting in the NRL. He says the incidents were obvious and it doesn't look good for the players concerned. Barnett is referring to the round 24 match between the North Queensland Cowboys and the Canterbury Bulldogs.
NRL chief executive David Gallop earlier this month threatened life bans on any players or officials implicated in the betting scandal. Gallop told the Australian newspaper: "In terms of individuals, obviously life bans are available to us and if this type of thing is proven then you would have to say that's very much on the cards.
Are we linked with anyone from the Cowboys or Bulldogs - can't think of any high profile ones, anyway.  |

On a interesting side note Willie Mason was accused of having a hand in a Sydney Roosters betting scandal for their last game of 2009.
Mason denied all involvement on the matty johns show.
