| Quote: PAUL M "Spot on Dave. Fielden did have a tough time for a while after the Mason incident but he was pretty good last year and has been very very good for Wigan this year. His signing would be an excellent one, bags of experience and at his age should be pretty much in his prime. Not worth breaking the bank for but if we can afford him then sign him.'"
Hi Paul
The story of Masons right hand causing SF loss of form is actually a RL myth, as he had been knocked on his harris by Mcdermott and Dannt Sculthorpe before that .
However what really caused his loss of form was the fact he had a personal meltdown / mini breakdown over the tragic loss of his mum at exactly the same time he went on that tour ( which he should not have gone on), his health, diet and mental state took a hammering and of course he lost form and the spiral down began for the lad and anyone who has lost their parents can I am sure sympathise with that .
However at present he is on the FC radar and on a 2 year deal he could be another solid corner stone for our pack and lets be fair a lot of the good stuff at present at wigan comes directly from Fielden and Coley!!

He was poor in the season leading up to that tour. He didn't deserve a spot on the plane that year, with his last really good game being in the WCC against Wests. After that, he was outplayed by Vagana, Lynch and Meyers consistently before being offloaded to Wigan and failing to do anything of note.

| It surprised me too and I seem to remember speculating at the time that it might have been a signing that Whelan/Lindsay wanted more than Noble.

I got told he had a lot of issues around that time which as you mention will have also had an impact on his form. I also don't think playing 80 mins each week did him any favours. He has been really good this season, more like his old self.

It took them so far over the salary cap that they were relegated due to the points deduction that they had agreed with all the other teams the year before.

Huh? Are you getting the £450k transfer fee mixed up with whatever his wage is/was?

Great stuff, hope we get him signed up then. Would be better VFM than Fielden for me, and a better longer-term signing.

Didn't we only sign him up for a year? If he keep battering defences the way he has been we could face a battle to keep him; got to be worth a 2 or 3 year deal in my opinion.
