Now we are out of the cup the season might as well be used to transition us into next year. Unless we are looking to sign half-backs for 2015 then sticking with Miller-Rankin for a dozen games just makes sense.

Radders seemed to point the finger at Rankin and Miller after the match with regards to their kicking game which I thought was harsh. I think they made mistakes with their kicks at times but at others they were amazing. They looked pretty solid to me last night playing alongside each other considering that was their first game together. I would like to see that partnership given a chance to succeed but think Horne will replace Rankin next week if he's fit.

Some of the kicks weren't great but most were a whole lot better than Horney's usual efforts (although he has improved this year).

Worst kick by a country mile was Azza's attempt just on half time. Should have gone to Miller to put the high bomb up. We messed up similarly with the last play at Cas.

I heard that too. I thought their attacking kicks (bombs and kicks to the corner) were very good and Salford always looked shaky when we put the ball in the air.

Some of the field kicking on the last tackle wasn't so good, especially in the final 20 minutes, but its no worse than what Horne & Co have been serving up for years.

If he's looking for someone to blame he needs to look elsewhere.

Surely though it must now be a case of Miller & Rankin being in pole position for 6 & 7 with Horne out unfortunately with an injury. Its up to those 2 to perform in Horne's absence and make it hard for Horne to get his place back in the halves, it shouldn't be a case of just putting him straight back in when he's back.

I'd be tempted to put Horne at centre when he's back fit as centre seems to be a major problem for us at present with non looking great. Oh for the days of Barnet/Domic.

Miller & Rankin need game time to generate any sort of form and partnership plus both are young and should be able to string more than 4 or 5 games without then missing due to injury, no disrespect to Horney who has been a great servant but we know we wont get a full season out of his body anymore.

As for the kicking it was no worse than Horne although he has done seemingly better than normal at times this season however Rankin has been in 7 out the side and Miller only played his 2nd game so they need game time to get up to speed so to speak. Both have shown what they can offer we just have to either show a bit of faith and go with them as our starting pair or get rid as no point keeping them to rot in the stands as it does the club nor player any good.

Radford knew Horne would only play 12-15 games thats why it made no sense to me not to have Rankin and Miller as starting halfbacks with Horne as back up.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?:

Another interesting theory. I guess Carvell, Crookes, Green, Bowden, Watts, Lineham, McDonnell etc should all be backups as well.

Horne should be fit for Huddersfield. So one game missed out of 8 - only 5-8 matches left in him!

Radford's right Horne is still the best half back at the club.

By Radfords reckoning before the season started that sounds about right

They've all missed a lot more games than Horne this season.

I thought this thread was about our half backs not our injuries.

The referee's indecision is final:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3738.gif

half backs are always in and out of games, it largely depends on how well the forwards are laying a go forward platform. that and getting good field position from penalties, such is the modern game
