No halfbacks controlling the game.'"
I though pryce tried hard but was never the player we need in his prime so isn't now. sneyd has been inconsistent since he joined us and we need an organiser next to him so he can do what he does well without any pressure, pryce was knackered early on last night and I expect his niggling injuries will start in a game or two and we'll be playing half back hokey cokey all season

| Disappointed with the result, but not too down, I thought Cas were excellent and were too quick for us in play and in the brain (Pryce, Watts and Frank proved that with 3 poor errors)
They got there tactics right and attacked our right and with Websters power and solomonas pace caused us all sorts of problems, every time they went that way I thought they were doing to score every time they went that way, Logan got a bit of a lesson.
Thought our pack did well and matched there's for a whole, but the extra class in the backs (Shaul apart) won them the game, a couple of times we had them in trouble, then suddendley a quick play of the ball and the likes of Roberts and Solomonas got them out of trouble and onto the front foot.
Our rugby we played is still miles ahead of last year, and I still think we won't be far off the top 4 this year.
We need to tighten up our defence, should have moved Ellis to the right to defend and I worry about the lack of pace on the flanks.
Ill finish with more credit to Cas, so good to watch and well coached, if they can keep their main players fit, I fancy them to go close to winning something this year.

We've one the most decorated successful half backs in the super league, and we play him in a system hes never played in, in his 19 year career! Why sign a player like that and not give him the reign over our attack, I don't get it

| -Best side won.
-Our Half back link and creativity wasn't there,
-Cas layed on to the max, really slowed down the ruck and it worked well, obvious Powell plan to stop us getting that roll on.
-We never hindered their play the ball and they DID get a roll on.
-In mid field we just couldn't get them down, throughout they kept on wriggling out of tackles and offloading, this really disrupted us.
-Don't think our pack came out hitting with the same venom as previous, so we never had them on the back foot.
-Sika and Frank not the same players last night ? Sika made key passing errors early on, both lead to tries. Frank just didn't get in the game, maybe the service ??
-Late penalty very harsh,
-Dont blame Micheals, the game was lost in other places.
-Over confidence and poor defence lost us the game , albeit narrowly.
-A strong power start is important for us , its set the tone.
- Cas game plan, and the their creative halves, both very good.
-Ben Roberts a constant thorn in our side, coated in Teflon.

Think that sums it up pretty much perfectly. What we did in the first 2 games (3 if you include rovers) is still there, and its pleasing to know that even though we were a bit off last night, that we still could have snuck it. Hopefully it'll be a bit of a bringing back down to earth for everyone, and we can kick on from here.

| Well done to Cas - agood side with some really good individuals. Special mention to their 18th man winger who was superb.
Not read other comments yet but in my opinion we lost the game in the first 25 mins with some distinctly average defence and ruck technique. Going 12-0 down against a quality side is always going to be tough and although we did briefly get back in front it was too much of an ask. Some of our contact by our forwards was way below what it needs to be and that softness caused some serious problems out wide for our backs.
Some of the deficiencies in the squad were exposed a bit - Talanoa getting skinned for pace twice and again poor defence of high kicks. I thought Logan had a tough night as well admittedly against a big opponent. Thought he should have gone in low himself when he passed to Michaels who didn't have the space to score. Michaels' forward pass on his own line was a joke.
On the plus side I thought we looked pretty dangerous every time we were in the Cas half - being held up 3 times and carried out the back once on top of the tries scored. That makes Pryce's brain explosion near the end even more ridiculous with 1:20 on the clock and the opposition stretched. Thought Mini and Ellis were our best forwards.
We needed to have a massive first 20 in the middle to stamp our authority - something that Radford said was the plan but we failed to achieve that. Sneyd's first kick straight to the full back when under no pressure whatsoever kind of set the tone for the first quarter of the game. Our defensive work in the ruck needs to be miles better and we are playing the 'best' team at that in the next game so we're going to have to be a hell of a lot better than we were last night in that area.
Well done to Cas deserved winners - if we shore up the defence and stop being bounced off in the collision there's still plenty to look forward to this year. But it needs fixing quickly.
Green, Naughton, Lancaster and Abdull should come into consideration this week IMO.

| The criticism of Michaels is harsh for me.
Was excellent under the high ball and was unlucky not to win us the game.
We need more of Ellis's ferocity and intensity.
Shaul was tremendous on the shoulder.
P!ssed off we lost but we go again.

| I dont think anyone is blaming Michaels for the loss, I dont get why people would come to that conclusion. We need pace outwide and he hasnt got enough of it, over the past season or so this has seen him not convert many overlaps into tries. Naughton would have scored that try last night and in tight games them plays are the difference.

| Sneyd's out of hand kicking and for that matter the kick offs were poor and bloody frustrating to watch. Again there was no attempt at a 40-20 (we didn't kickone last year ) again he kicked far too close or at the FB. IF JA does come in he gives us a much better weapon with his kicking in open play. Figuring out a kick off strategy that doesn't just hand the ball over on the 10m with a dolly kick woll give our defenders more time to get up the pitch and put pressure on the opposition.
There were lots of poor play by far too many players

| I am more frustrated than anything after last night no big changes needed to the team would have made big statement to go 3 from 3 . You have to give Cas a lot credit their tactics was spot on and we have to get back to doing the basics right . Big Frank for me we have to use near the line even though last night he give away that stupid penalty, Would also like to see him on at the same time as Mini and not necessarily keep interchanging between them. Think will be a good kick up the backside to them as I think maybe a few have listened to the hype a bit too much.

I made a comment on Twitter after the game stating that I was going to take a chair and sit on the 10m line and wait for his kick offs, as they will be the same place next week. He actually liked the tweet, to which I replied that I was probably being harsh, but I feel that kicks off can be a way of putting the receiving side under pressure, rather than just a way to restart.
I also mentioned on the other thread, that his last tackle kicking is poor. He doesn't put his foot through it which can create the 'spiral' or just make it a lot more difficult and allow our chase to pressure the catcher

Challenge Cup Winners 2016 (at Wembley) - HULL FC: |

| Just watched some of the game again.
The kick off after the drop goal Shaul actually makes an effort to Sprint there to try and get the ball back.
He is blocked off by Gale who makes a clear effort to run in his way. Should definitely have been a penalty to us.

Hicks wasn't interested by that time. What was the 'shoulder' tackle on Michaels like on our line ? Seemed like a regulation high shot live.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| I'm surprised no one has mentioned Gale teeing up a conversion a yard in from the touchline, after we'd all watched 10 minutes of VT analysis checking if the ball had been grounded on/inside the touchline.
When I say "watched", I do of course mean tried to watch, as those flashing lights make it impossible to see anything.
Please don't waste money paying for this "light show" at the Wigan game.

Agree on all counts. Bit thick by Hicks allowing him to pinch a good yard after a vid ref referral to see if he'd put the ball down on the in goal line.
