Good appraisal of the CTWD campaign on Amber Nectar.
www.ambernectar.org/phpBB3/viewt ... start=3517

The embarrassing reluctance of local media to apply the same level of challenge and scrutiny to the Allams as they have done to CTWD is well articulated.

Old ground but

Quote: Allam, who took charge of the club in in December 2010, told BBC Sport.
"If it had been the other way round, if the FA had approved it but the fans had said no, I would have severed my ties with the club immediately," Allam, who took charge of the club in in December 2010, told BBC Sport.
"But the results mean I owe it to the silent majority to appeal and to fight on.'"

Now, its clearly shown on Sky Sports news that in an interview with Allam, he never goes back on a decision and without any question states he would walk away from Hull City if the name change was rejected.

He may have been a successful business man (with [iallegedly[/i some questionable ethics) but he really need advice on his media image. There maybe other instances of this, but he threatened to take Hull City to Melton. That never happened! He stated he would walk away if the name change was not approved. Now he is changing the goal posts!!! The Media will be all over this.

A Little like the blokes maths. How can there be a silent majority?

Quote: Allam, who took charge of the club in in December 2010, told BBC Sport.
"Having seen 2,565 vote "Yes to Hull Tigers with the Allam family continuing to lead the club" compared to the 2,517 who voted "No to Hull Tigers", the poll of all season ticket holders over the age of 16 has acted as confirmation to them that they maintain the support of fans.
After inviting 15,033 to participate in the vote'"

Hull City's average home gate will be around 23000, so there will be 21000 home fans in regular attendance. on just over 15k were invited to vote of which only just over 5000 bothered to of which about half wanted to name change!!!

Majority my arris icon_wink.gif

Personally I want Allam to stay, he is far more entertaining. The back tracking he is doing could make a sitcom!

I think this is gunna get messy.
The rule states that a club or player cannot take the FA (A FIFA member) to court but surely the opposite precedent was set when Bosman took FIFA to court?
The FA have said no but surely they have already set their own precedent on that as well when they allowed a professional club to change it's name AND it's location without making them start from the bottom of the pyramid.

I imagine a good lawyer would have fun with that.

Quote: HDM "After inviting 15,033 to participate in the vote,
the owners are believed to view the 9,159 people who chose not to do so as being in the same boat as the 792 who voted
"I am not too concerned and will continue to support the club either way".

Buoyed by the ballot's results, the Allams have admitted to having renewed energy in their name- change fight'"

Not quite fact, but clearly an interpretation everyone was expecting.

Spot on. They've not covered themselves in glory regarding their coverage. The national media have been much better whether they've been pro name change or against it.

It's not an excuse, but the national media are more powerful and less reliant on/don't have the personal relationships/goodwill that local media does.

When all this has blown over, public admiration for journalistic integrity won't pay the bills if somebody else, who played along, is getting all the juicy exclusives.

I agree with you. I don't like it but I imagine that's exactly why they've taken the stance they have.

Quote: ccs "BT Sport rlnot too keen on Mr Allamrl either.'"

Brilliantly encapsulates the feelings of the majority of City fans, the vast majority of other teams' fans, the FA, astounded onlookers and the national sporting media. Everyone, in fact, other than our own local media, the sycophants Humberside, shamefully led by Carpet Burns, and the Wail, with it's cowering Allam-champion Fewings.

Sorry, Mild Rover, I cannot agree with your sentiments on this. Mike Calvin of BT Sports should not have to be the spokesperson for every right-minded person not frightened out of their own opinion by Allam's threats. The leading spokespeople protecting our city's soccer heritage should be our local journalists. They have a duty to represent the people who read and listen to their respective media outlets. They should have no obligation to a bigoted bully who mistakes his own financial feathering for philanthropy, thereby believing it gives him carte blanche to destroy culture and acquire the city's legacy. When this is met with opposition he believes he has the right to force the issue anyway, by threats, smoke and mirrors, undemocratic ballots, sheer pig-headedness and embarrassing one-sided spats with the City council.

No, MR, what will happen afterwards should be the least of our local media representatives' considerations. They should he leading the way now, reflecting the mood and sentiments of the whole of the rest of us, both locally and nationally. Their time is now. Instead they cower and hold on to shirt tails, terrified of a camel's spit in the eye.

It is a sad day when the freedom of the press, local or otherwise, is compromised by the spectre of thinly disguised intimidation. If this is the case, and our local 'independent' journalists are compromised into protecting the whims of one manipulative individual rather than the interests of the rightuous majority by not reporting FAIRLY AND ACCURATELY and without being strong-armed, then we all may as well pack up and go home. Allam doesn't pay their wages, the Mail and the BBC do - there's no need to be afraid of not being able to put food on the table ffs. Lets not over-dramatize.

Today Mark Calvin has done Burns and co's job for them. They should hang their heads in shame - they're not fit for purpose as independent journalists. My opinion, of course.

Not my favourite newspaper but a good article in the national Daily Mail dismantling Allam's global ambitions:

Bear in mind Europa League games are on a Thursday night and the following Premiership fixtures on a Sunday afternoon.

Could be convenient that our last few home games are on a Friday night.
