| For those that are saying it's a backwards step or it's just for nostalgia reasons couldn't be more wrong. Just because you prefer sitting and it's safer doesn't mean it's right and the only option.
I far prefer standing. The freedom to move around to a better area if you're stuck with a n0b, or if you want to move to where the atmosphere is, or if you turn up late and want to stand with a group of friends. You can't get that in an unreserved seating area unless you are lucky enough to find spare seats.
The grounds that have standing in (under a roof that is!) I've often found have the better atmospheres. I know of many people that don't go anymore because the KC has been like a morgue at times and they only do away games.
There's nothing wrong or backwards about giving people more options. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Having the option of both would be a forwards step.

| Having said that, the suggested method I'm not sure about. Would it still allow for the movement of people? Or would you still have to occupy the same area as your 'seat'?

No and yes.
Looks like the only similarity between Safe Standing and the old terraces is the fact that you're standing up. All the downsides with none of the benefits as far as I can tell.

| As a football supporter of the KC, I would love the stadium to offer a standing alternative. According to a City fansite, this is a view shared by a large majority of City fans that were apparently polled on the issue.
Reading this thread (albeit a small representation of FC supporters), it doesn't look like this idea is as welcome as it is from the football front. If this was/is the case, surely the SMC/Hull City can't just assume, that if the go ahead was one day granted, they could do this - without at least consulting the other users of the stadium?

Just a thought but why don't the many people you know who have stopped going because of the atmosphere at the KC start going again and try to help improve it,my guess is that if the teams performances carry on improving this will naturally create a better atmosphere and these people will return wether sitting or standing

Because they're followers, not leaders. It takes a few leaders together to start a good atmosphere. That's easier to achieve in standing areas than seated.

But if it's the full South Stand given over to it, it's not providing more options, as at the same time it's removing the option for people to sit in the end stand unless you're willing to sit in the first 2-3 rows. I like an end view, about half-way up the stand, and I like to sit. If this idea was brought in, I'd have the following as 'more options' for me:
1) Continue to sit in the same area of the South Stand and see f**k all behind the standing people.
2) Stand for the duration of the game instead.
3) Move to a different stand, for a view I don't like as much, and pay an increased price for the privilege.
Then there's my Grandad and people like him. He can't stand for a full game any more, so he also has options 1) and 3) as above, but I know with certainty he'll pick alternative option number 4) and simply stop going.
This is one of those issues (like alcohol in the stands and Fridays vs. Sundays) that people tend to only see from their own point of view. 'This is what I want, and as such I am unable/unwilling to see why it may be entirely reasonable that it is not available to me.'

I never advocated having the full (or any) of the South Stand, and from what appears to be being discussed, it's part of the East Stand that's on the agenda.
In the event of just the full South Stand being standing (which I wouldn't agree with), they could always section off the North Stand (like for City) so that those that want to sit on the end can still do so.
I'm not an advocate of taking away your options, and the things I've suggested wouldn't.

| FWIW. Seeing as it's a football driven initiative, I'd imagine the area(s) they'd look to trial would be the northern area of the East Stand and the away section within the North Stand. Due to the large volume of standing within these sections @ football matches.

| Standing or sitting is clearly personal preference. I quite like standing at away games, but I also like not having to get to my place within the stadium 30 before kick off to get a good view at home games.
One things for sure, it's generally a better atmosphere when groups are stood together.

I like sitting at home matches and we usually get there in enough time to all sit together.
Equally I quite enjoy standing at places like Leeds, Cas, Wakey and Bratfud.
Just a thought, would admission prices be cut in the standing areas? I doubt it.
