| Quote: Airlie1984 "Never a truer word said pal. The current Leeds status quo typifies the need for a top quality proven coach to be installed at the top. Although it could be argued that the strength in depth which McClennan and Smith had to work with is not quite there for McDermott. Or is that just a perception which has been caused simply because of the differences is coaching quality between them?'"
An excellent question and food for thought! I would recon with smith, madge or brown in charge Leeds would be near the top fighting for honours. and with better/fit halves I see no reason why fc couldn't be their or their abouts

probably we wouldn't be top, but would be top 4 year on year and we would actually beat the big clubs more than once in a while. sadly no british coaches seem to be up to it in the british game any more

With the current squads but better coaches, I would say that both Leeds and Hull would be competing for the top 4, with Leeds possibly capable of a GF appearance thanks to greater big game experience. Don't think either would be good enough for a trophy still, though.

the price of franchising I am afraid, for both clubs.

| Quote: sgtwilko "Hmmm ironc post from you here pal as the pre game chat before Friday was all you lot in the Leeds away thread! Leeds fear us, we will beat them twice, they have nothing! So on and so on. Nobody is more awear than our own fans that Leeds have some big issues to resolve.
If you beat us big wow! We are both crap and poorly coached! I'm not concerned with Leeds results if I'm honest. I'm far more interested in the club getting back on the right track.
Here is a fact you have no chance of winning the cup even if you beat us. so really losing next week will do either team a favour in having a bit more energy to make the 8 which again is a waste of time as there is no chance of you winning the GF. Leeds have a bit more chance but not a lot.
That's not arrogance that's honesty.'"
To be fair, he is right.

He had the same salary cap to deal with as others. Certainly Wigan/Saints/Leeds and he more than just competed with Raper, Millward, and Smith.

| You see Ryan Hall scoring the brilliant individual tries that Tom Briscoe scores all the time...not.

| Ryan Hall and Tom Briscoe both have their respective strengths and weaknesses, and are both really good players. Personally I'm a bigger fan of Briscoe but my glasses are very tinted. I'd have both on the wings for England.

Is the correct answer. IMO Briscoe is the better player but that's not to say I don't rate Ryan Hall.

| Briscoe is an unbelievable talent, one of the best young English players to of come through in Super League, personally i prefer him than Ryan Hall has he offers much more in attack and defence and along side Yeaman you are looking at what is possibly not only the best English centre partnership but possibly the best in the league too, just a shame you don't utilise this better (maybe an Agar thing)
Briscoe is athletic, fast and agile, Hall had a great year last year with Leeds but has failed to push on this year IMO, he seems more fitted for a centre/back row spot than a winger with his big and bulky frame.
So for me Briscoe easy. I would of absolutely of loved to see Owen and Briscoe on both England wings, but it seems that Owen is yet to fully recover from the broken leg he sustained last year and is some way off.
