Any other season Solamona would be favorite. Definitely Houghton for me.

A winger unless outstanding in all departments should not be getting a look in over say Houghton who's gonna finish season having made 8 times more tackles,pinned teams with raking kicks. Kicked 40.20s. Got double figure try assists. Nearly in double figure try's himself and steered his team from nearly half of every play of the balls all year
You could break down all the contenders in a similar way long before you start handing a M O S to a winger

Looking back at last dozen or so winners, most are halves or outside backs, but surprised by that.

Solomona is about to break the SL try scoring record that's stood for 12 years. What records has Houghton achieved? Should you want to compare stats I would guess Solomona would come out on top in everything except tackle counts.

I think there's only been two top try scorers to win the MOS in the SL era in Tompkins & Richards , Vainikolo missed out to Lyon iirc .

Dunno. Ask the previous poster who felt it necessary to point out Houghton has made 10x more tackles than Solomona.

Solomona would be a worthy winner.

Houghton deserves to be favourite though. He does a lot more than just tackle and he is a key player in the best team in the league having his best ever season. Without him we wouldn't be top and we wouldn't have the cup.

Then he'll get the award for top try scorer in Super League. The Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award is for the player "who has had the biggest impact on the season". That's not something you could say about Solomona. As admirable as his try scoring expolits are his club has lost half their games this year.

Houghton's defence and kicking has been influential in our march to the top of Super League and of course his tackle on Ben Currie won us the Challenge Cup. Pretty major impact.

Winger's get far too much credit in the modern game.
