id still rather us finish top, thats the true measure of the champion team ,not finishing 5th and winning a couple of knockout games at end of season.we have one knockout trophy,no need for two.

I agree
There is not enough importance about finishing top of the league either by fans or the RFL in terms of money for the winners.
To make it meaningful the top team should automatically be given a place in the grand final and let the other top four teams play off for the other final place.

The problem with doing it that way, is that whoever finishes top, would then have a three week break, which may be more of a disadvantage than the current system.

But that isn't the measure though, is it?

Every club knows the rules at the start of the season on how the grand prize is won.

If a sprinter wins every race of the season, with ease, but fails to win the Olympic final, then they are not the Olympic champion.

this system promotes mediocraty and teams like hull can get away with being inconsistent.radford isn't too bothered by the odd thrashing as long as we make the 5.to finish 5th in a league of 12 says to me you aren't championship material.knock out trophies are good, but the best team doesn't always win it.the league should be more about stamina and season long consistency.but this is just my opinion.

But if the aim was to finish top to be the champions, then clubs would approach it a different way.

We went all out for it in 2016, and almost won a treble, but we ran out of steam in the final furlong. Maybe Radford has learnt from that, and is managing our tilt at the crown differently?

Season would be all but over for clubs currently in places 3-10 applying your system. Not enough sustained interest.

Indeed, as the saying goes, "you can only play whats in front of you", and that includes the competition format.

Quote: Mrs Barista "They are the wishes of all 12 clubs and fanbases. I suspect there's a bit of "what we have we hold" in that the last 4 seasons have been amongst our best in a generation, and in the context of a Grand Final success glass ceiling we have more to lose than win. At least we have a Jekyll. Without it we'd be mired in the crappy relegation dogfight.
How true that is and it's not lost on me. You just look at the best in the comp and want to be better! I just think if we come away empty handed this season some of those heavy defeats which have crept into our results in the last couple of seasons will be blamed. Attitude is everything. Ours just needs to be good more often.

Can you 'coach' attitude, are we missing leaders on the pitch?

You’re, of course, entitled to that preference. In some ways I share it - that most games are played to win a prize derided as the hubcap isn’t brilliant imo.

Do you regard the Hull teams of 1955-56 and and 1957-58 as not true champions, because they finished the league seasons in 4th place?

There were one or more seasons when you finished top but didn’t win the Championship final, i’m pretty sure, but I don’t have time to check which now.

Our game is brutal and uncompromising at times, the athletes and warriors who entertain us are magnificent.

Ellis has been a very special player, on both sides of the world, nothing surprises me regarding this guy.

No need for him to play against London. Get well soon Gaz.

He's a machine but he needs protecting from himself. Another week off won't hurt.
