Tommy Haris also the 1st hooker to win the lance Todd and on a losing team and being heavily concussed. The best 2 I have seen over the years are Jacko and Swain, with Swain edging it for me.

Lee Jackson gets my vote as he seemed to be a mould breaker in terms of the hookers role.

Cannot disagree with the other suggestions made although I would prefer to remember Ronnie Wileman for his 50yd scoot down the right wing to score at Headingley.

I also think Shaun Berrigan is a candidate.

i don't comment much on the threads leaving it up to you guys but another worth a mention in my time of watching was keith bridges. they didn't come more old school either in looks or style but keith was instrumental in winning ball out of contested scrums and was a key member of the league winning team in 1982/3. always remember him scoring a try in televised cup game at the boulevard and he scored so few he almost didn't know what to do when he got the ball about 5 metres out.

Lee Jackson was one of my favourite players and very good. Swain was an outstanding genuinely world class player. Berrigan had some tremendous games at 9 but typically spent most of his Hull career playing anywhere but there, his best position, and so has to be ruled out more thanks to his coach than himself. Having said that one player who was before my time stands out a mile. Tommy Harris has more Great Britain appearances as a Hull player than anyone else, won a Lance Todd Trophy on a losing team and clocked up over 400 appearances. By all accounts he was the original game changer of being a mobile, skilful hooker who could more than hold his own in open play. In those days hookers were first and foremost ball winners and that was all a lot of them could do. As a youngster I often heard the old timers commenting on any new number 9s that were speedy and skilful hoping that they would become the next Tommy Harris - basically he was the gold standard against which others were judged. He basically has it all, a long career, a great career as evidenced by his better than any other Hull player's representative record and that he was a genuine innovator as to how the position was played, Lee Jackson - much as I admire him came 30 years late on that. So for me Tommy Harris should be a certainty.

I would also like to put in a good word for Ronnie Wileman though, not for breaking Millward's jaw which frankly is nothing to celebrate at all but rather shameful, but for making a mug of Fairbairn in the JPS final and I also remember him embarrassing Georgina when he was playing for Wigan and Ronnie scored from near half way easily beating the soon to be world's most expensive player.

Harris, end of story, sorry but whilst Jackson is an old school-mate and I loved watching him coming up through the ranks into being a GB rep and playing for Sydney & Newcastle and winning the GF he just didnt have the presence and overall impact that Harris had on the Hull or even GB team and considered a 'great' by many.

Even amongst that magical team of Bomber's era he was a stand out, developing the role of the hooker into what we recognise today whilst still being a crafty ball winner in the scrum a great tackler, tenacious and great at backing up breaks, he had it all. Going on to be the most capped GB hooker (if we forget the 'plastic tests' that Roby has played in) he has half as many again GB caps over a longer period than Jackson did AND won a World Cup plus 3 Ashes series, being on the winning side against Australia in 6 out of his 10 tests against them. I would classify Harris as GB's greatest ever hooker but that's my opinion.

Harris only started playing RL at the grand age of 22, was sensational in his trial match and quickly followed up by his debut the following month.
With 443 matches, 56 tries and 2 championship winners medals he's one of Hull FC greatest ever players from home or abroad.

Jackson is deffo up there for inclusion in the short-list, he was fantastic for us, Swain, great work ethic, amazing tackler and leader, he probably just eclipses Jacko in overall contribution but Percival Thomas 'Bomber' Harris, is THE definitive hooker of any era, for me there is no doubt in the slightest and if there is any justice in voting on work ethic, skillset, contribution not only to the club but to the game internationally then Harris MUST be voted as our hooking option.

Nice obituary in the YP, www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/com ... -1-2393243

Nice obituary in the YP,
Not a lot to add to that re Tommy Harris except to say he is in my top 3 of all players I have seen play for the club having watched him since he began at Hull.

Perhaps his greatest game was in the 1960 Wembley final when he went into the match with a niggling shoulder injury which finally forced him from the field with over 15 minutes to play, having left the field concussed earlier in the match. His ovation from all the crowd as he walked back to the dressing room was something that will always be a great memory for me. His superb play and great courage justified the Lance Todd trophy even though Hull were hammered by Wakefield.

As has been mentioned earlier, in the 1950's in open play he played the typical No.9 game similar to what we witness today.

Ronnie Wileman and Dean Treister in 2nd and 3rd places to Richard Swain (although how often did Swain actually get played at hooker, rather than in the halves?)
