I've seen similar comments to this before on here and I don't understand TBH. We're playing almost exactly like ourselves last year, or have people erased that painful memory?
IMO Agar has pretty much continued as Peter Sharp left off, so to try and palm off the blame on Jon Sharp is a strange one.

| Quote: UllFC "what was even more baffling about Agar's appointment was how quick they made it permanent
he had one game against Saints as temporary coach, which admittedly was an improved Hull display...then they give him a 3 year deal! they should have made him prove himself for a few months, whilst seeing who else was available'"
I was told that Warrington expressed a bit of interest so Hull kind of panicked into getting him tied up. It was certainly a strange length of deal though.

| Hull should have gone for Potter, Murray or Folkes...pushed the boat out! I'm all for succession planning and the grooming of coaches but to do that you have to have to get the club culture and ethos right!
If you teach mediocrity and averageness then that is what you develop, it happened with Kear, now Agar and as we all suspect more than likely Sharp (if Agar goes). '" ]

As some of us suggested he would, only to be shouted down.

Unless something changed unannounced, Agar was the attacking coach during Sharp's tenure and remains so. Given that, it's hardly surprising that we don't look any more likely to score than we did last season.

Absolutely. And those of us who also saw some areas for for concern even when we won at the start of the season were told to stop moaning and look at the table. Then when the wheels started to come off we were told not to knee-jerk, have a bit of patience and faith and we'd be alright.
Not panning out great ATM.

A thought. I wonder what proportion of our salary bill goes on backs/halves as opposed to forwards. I wouldn't be surprised if we spent the smallest proportion on backs/halves of any club in the competition.

You may well be correct, and its obvious who would be put in charge, John Sharp.

doesn't surprise me theyre another club who really should be doing better, though they have finally got round to hiring a good coach in Tony Smith, but its taken them years to get such a big thing right
and i agree people are putting the blame on Jon Sharp too much (even though i will be disgusted if they hand him the job) as Agar would have been heavily involved in the awful displays Peter Sharps side were dishing up as well

everything the club does is baffling, i bet they've been out scouting for more 'hard working' 2nd rowers to join us

I've not forgotten, I was at every game.
I think we're playing more up the middle than last season, not pushing it out to the wings. We're slower too.
I blame the whole set up, but I don't think having Jon Sharp on the coaching staff will help us play fast, expansive, creative rugby. He did nothing for Hudds, and he'll do nothing for us. It was a sideways step, not a forward one.

I'm not sure about that. Five of our first choice backs are full internationals after all.
Daft as it may sound, I think much of the problem in the backs may be down to all apart from Tony being English. We, as a country, have struggled for quality backs for years, particularly at centre and half, which is where Hull are lacking. We saw the difference a top half could make when Head came over, and in the games Dykes played last year, but there isn't anyone here anywhere near that standard, least of all Thorman.

I thought I was too, but obviously I missed a shedload where we revelled in wide running and wing play.
SL is slower as a whole this year thanks to the 'wrestle' interpretations being altered. See Huddersfield for the prime example. We're just particularly poor at this area so it stands out more.
I too blame the whole coaching setup, but Agar is the man in charge so must receive the lion's share. Jon Sharp definitely won't help us play good rugby, as he's mainly here to take care of the defensive side.
As trys'r'us said, Agar has supposedly been focussed on our attack for the past couple of years and it has consistently looked woeful. Do we need a big flashing neon sign pointing out this coincidence?
