His stats don't even begin to stack up to Richard Horne though who according to many is a spent force.

I think he'll do alright for us and is certainly what we need this year, somebody to interchange with Houghton and a bit of extra cover in the halves.
It's the two years I'm dubious about but I doubt we'd have got him without it. Whether the two years is a good move or not will become clearer as next years recruitment is sorted I suppose.

Obst isn't a world beater but provide good backup and cover for key positions.

Don't know if this has been mentioned as I have not read every post. But at the forum Agar said we have missed out on players who wanted 2 year deals, we were only prepared to offer 1 year. Now we have given Obst (who I like by the way) a 2 year deal, what calibre of player have we missed out on who wanted 2 years

Maybe he meant 2 year deals for quota players.

His stats are far better than Hornes for last year,Granted Horney played 13 times and Obst played 23 times.

Maybe. But the way it came across was they didn't want to offer anyone a 2 year deal. As if we had already lined up halfbacks for next year. The thing with Obst is it doesnt stop us signing 2 halfbacks next year as I guess he will be expected to play mainly at Hooker. I hope this is the case

Think that might have been scrum halves. Obst is more a hooker who can cover SH.

Hull have plans for the halves next year so won't want to tie up quota spots with 2 year deals.

hes a decent signing thats experienced at super league level that will provide good cover at pivot and hooker but as long as we have 2 good fit halfbacks for 2012 and houghton as hooker then i suppose having obst on a 2 year isnt that bad but if we go into next season with obst as a starting halfback then its bad recruitment
