Quote Ovid="Ovid"Will the club ban every medi organisation that dares to criticise it? Burns said nothing that he could be taken to court for. This is a case of FC saying 'criticise us and we'll cut you off' - it's pathetic really. They should get the FC house in order so they don't give anyone anything to be critical about. There's no smoke without fire and all that...'"
You have missed the point by such a distance it reminds me of one of our drop goal attempts.
Burns and his Sportstalk programme continually persist to undermine Hull FC at all levels from the board through the coaches to the team performances and have done since the sour grapes that were trodden during Cookiegate.
All publicity is NOT good publicity if it is eternally negative. People start to believe there are embers under the smoke and the target becomes a victim. The world is now in a financial depression catalysed by media frenzy, Peter Sharp (the lucky devil) sits paddling his toes from his beach side veranda, poor Jade Goody went from evil rascist to tragic celebrity purely as a result of the changing strategies the media decided to direct at her.
Fewey was another example. The letters he received became increasingly anti-Hull the more he poked fun at us EVERY WEEK in his column. Rule eventually intervened there as well.
He had to - just as he had to pounce when given this opportunity by Burns finally overstepping the mark.
Because negativity breeds and tall poppies wither and die.
Our club and fans don't deserve or need that. One man's bitterness cannot be allowed to even begin to scrape something that is great in our city. Burns and Fewey wax lyrical about the greatness of Duffen and what he has brought to the city. Hull FC have been ambassadors for decades, along with Hull KR. These fly-by-nights who undermine that should be forced to stop if their respective employers will not take steps.
The fact remains that Burns should represent, as an employee of our local BBC, whose wages are paid by us, EVERYTHING positive in our local sport. Of course, there are times when bad things happen and this should rightly be highlighted as part of the overall ups and downs of sport and it's politics.
But Burns doesn't do this with regard to our club. His spite continully chips away daily encouraging the sheep he allows on his program who call themselves Hull FC fans to spread his poison.
Rule can't stop that. But he has, and rightly, cauterised the news supply.
