Didn't realise he's only 29! Must have a few years left in him, if not for us then I hope we have a decent replacement lined up.

Its wrong, he is 31 (according to Wikpedia and HullfC.com) typical mail getting it wrong, Blake Green had a different age on successive days this week. He will be 32 in May next year.

He injury record hasn't been great for us so I would pass on resigning him.

He is a fantastic player imo. I think it is not coincidental that we have started winning now that he is back. We have some real go-forward with him in the team and the opposition know he is someone to be wary of whether they are carrying the ball or he is.

Don't think re-signing an Aussie import, the wrong side of 30 who's missed more games than he's played this year is a good idea, despite the impact he has.

Nationality (or being an "import"icon_wink.gif is irrelevant. Props aged 30+ are numerous and effective. O Meley has played more games this season than 2 of our rumoured signings who have been long term injured despite being young. Players who have a real impact on the way the team players are valuable players IMO. Of course if he were to leave, as seems likely, then provided his like for like replacement is as good or better then the team as a whole will not be affected. If his replacement isn't as good then we will have weakened at a player for player level.

i agree...

i think we should offer him a 1 year extension to be reviewed at end of each season pending on performance/injuries.

Maybe because of other signings it's a simple case of not being able to keep him and stay under the salary cap. I should imagine that he is one of our top earners and maybe we need the slice of cap for someone else?

Good summary of the situation, I also think he is worth another year, like I have mentioned before not only for his impact on the pitch but also the mentorship he could offer our younger players.

I find his nationality very relevant, given the non-fed rules. If he's only playing 50% or less of the games then I'd rather his spot go to a homegrown player.
There is however, rumours that his injury was mis-diagnosed/mis-managed which meant a longer rehabilitation period, I personally think he's been replaced already, by Liam Watts. O'Carroll has been replaced by Green/Bowden and we just need to replace Moa.
I would just rather we didn't go down the route of signing 30+ Aussies full stop.

He is worth another year on reduced terms, he said in an interview that when he retires he will go back to oz and get a job in a mine. Can't take a huge some of money to tempt him to stay for another year surely if that's what he has planned? One more year playing for Hull must be a better option than that. Plus you are a long time retired!

Depends on whether we need his place for another non fed player - otherwise it's irrelevant.

Quote: east hull FC fan "If he's only playing 50% or less of the games then I'd rather his spot go to a homegrown player.'"

In the sport of RL how can it be predicted how many games a player will play ? Injuries are part of the game.

Quote: east hull FC fan "There is however, rumours that his injury was mis-diagnosed/mis-managed which meant a longer rehabilitation period, I personally think he's been replaced already, by Liam Watts. O'Carroll has been replaced by Green/Bowden and we just need to replace Moa.'"

And if Moa is replaced by someone better than Moa/O Meley then fair enough as I said.

Quote: east hull FC fan "I would just rather we didn't go down the route of signing 30+ Aussies full stop.'"

Even if they're the best players available in their positions regardless of nationality ?

Seem to remember O'Meley saying that throughout his career he always seemed to have a season with some injuries then an injury free season the next. So if this is true that means I'd sign him on for another year if we have not used his quota spot and no better else is available that would be an improvement.
