I don't think a true fan would like the fact that the their club are losing money due to reduced pass sales. Whether it's an older view or a modern one makes no difference, I don't want to see the club lose £200k worth of income.
It's not up to the fans who runs and manages the club, otherwise it would be a constant merry-go-round. The club seem convinced right now that Agar is the man, they backed him with his desire to get rid of some deadwood and also backed his vision of the side in terms of recruiting the players he wants and even spending money on some of them like Westerman and Tansey. However, don't be fooled, Kath is a very shrewd businesswoman and knows her rugby and if she feels that things are starting to go wrong she will act. She did so with Bomber, Kear and Sharp. If Agar finishes top 6 this season or better then he will be fine but should he not finish top 8 then I think he will be gone.
Right now there are no grounds to get shut of Agar as he delivered a much more competitive side last season. This season will be a big test for him with not a lot of signings coming in and others sides recruiting fairly well. He has a set side pretty much and it will now be a huge test of his coaching ability. He will be judged by his results.

| Quote: garry brindley "I have emailed the club re Agar many times and even spoken to Rule on the phone having him swear blind to me for 10 minutes that Agar is the best thing since sliced bread. I haven't attended a forum because on the radio they come across like one of those southern state evangelical conferences that you see on the god channel.
Everyone is entitled to spend their money how they like but you saying that my viewpoint is ridiculous is not on. You have a fairly old-fashioned view of what it is to be a supporter (but no less valid), mine is the more modern one that supporters at the end of the day are consumers. I don't think anyone can argue that by the continued retention of Agar the board are giving the fans what they want, so eventually the good will runs out and it costs them in pass sales, that's their fault not the consumer's in my opinion.
If you think the only people who are true fans are those who stick to the 'In any kind of weather' mantra, hand their money over and accept whatever they are given then fair enough but IMO you couldn't be more wrong.'"
It's been a real filip reading your posts. You've done what many of us thought was impossible and made some of our negative mainstays look positively... well... positive. Cheers mate and Merry Christmas.

| I think that many of those not renewing their passes will be because of the reserved seating in the East Stand. My mates all got their passes before I could, and have seats together. When I went to get mine all of the seats around them were taken, so I decided not to renew, simply because I don't want to go to the game and sit by myself. I will still go to games when I'm home, only in the South Stand with mates without passes.

I agree with much of this. However I do think that Kath et al will be expecting more than a top 6 finish as a return on their investment. It wouldn't surprise me if they let Richard Agar go if we do not reach a final.

I agree, but a lot will depend on who else is available, it's all well and good wanting Agar to leave, but there aren't a huge list of REALISTIC candidates.
We could end up with Last in charge!!

It's true - and I still haven't given up on Agar. But I must say I've never seen Last as a possible future first team coach, although it probably ought to be in his personal future career plans.

i agree.people seem to think we should be throwing money at a top aussie coach, but i dont think any are prepared to come over here.was maguire a big name when he came over to wigan? no! who is to know whether the likes of bennett, kearney etc have had offers from other super league clubs over the last,say,2 years?wigan and saints have recruited aussies, but in hindsight if we had appointed maguire, most fans would have said, who!!!!the same with nathan brown too! we can offer a small fortune to a well known coach, but they would prefer to stay in oz anyway!!!

To say a supporter is basically a consumer is beyond me, I will support my team through whatever it takes and always. But, again, that's just your opinion and this is just mine.

Sorry but that is utter bollox.
Nobody I know thinks we have any chance of getting Wayne Bennett or the like over to coach us. What we can expect is that the board get us the best man for the job that is willing to come here. Wigan went and did a fact-finding mission, and determined that Maguire was the best man for them. Are you seriously suggesting if we'd have appointed him we'd have said 'Who?' and been nonplussed by his arrival?! He was at the most successful club in Aus, ok as an assistant not a head coach but still that's a huge pedigree.
Instead we get a guy who never played at the top level, did a short stint coaching York Knights before moving to us and working as no. 2 in two failed regimes before getting a promotion for his troubles and failing to win so much as a playoff game in 2 1/2 years in charge.
I refuse to believe the idea that it would be impossible for us to get someone in that could do better than Agar has done.

coaches like bennett and kearney have been mentioned on here long before your 1st worthless post,so less of the ''bollox'' pee brain quite a few people have mentioned as to why our board wont go for the big name coach, but my point is that they wont come to britain, nevermind hull!!

It mentions on his FC site profile that he might be head coach one day.

Agar has already been given far more latitude than Kear or Sharp. Anything less than a top 4 finish and a massive improvement in the brand of rugby we play next season should spell the end. The 'in any kind of weather' mantra is all very well, but I go to rugby to be entertained and some of our matches last year were about as exciting as an episode of 'Heartbeat'.

You're entitled to your opinion as much as I am to mine and you make a good case however much I disagree with the overall sentiment, please don't start with the 'true fan' stuff though as it really cheapens your argument.
I agree Agar was never going to get fired this year after he improved on the last two finishes. To me though the idea is fundamentally wrong that he deserves praise for finishing 6th/7th (however you look at it) on the basis that he did so appallingly badly the two seasons before that.. has everyone forgotten how we were performing in the 3 or 4 seasons before he took over?
