| Quote: dundeeblackandwhite "Hardly a bollox statement.. numbers may be slightly out, but think you are being a bit picky at BB's opinion.
Imo she made a more than fair point. Hall has had his chance time and time again and if he hasn't improved his biggest problems ie tackling, positioning etc then he never will.. we have lost a lot of points down to him, and although I wish him luck wherever he goes, I prefer to have him defending against us than for us..'"
Missed this one...
First off, BB is more than capable of defending herself - we've been having variations on this conversation all season.
Second off - the numbers are more than a little out. People forget that up until this season Hall had the best try return per game played of any of our players. He's scored a lot of points for us and not been directly responsible for letting in anywhere near the same number. The statement was pure fabrication to make a point that really doesn't need the over-emphasis.
Lastly - while it cannot be argued that Hall's defence is a weakness, this season he has been exposed by playing on the right wing where our flank defence has been pitiful no matter who plays there. Whiting let Meli score four past him in one game for instance, and we're still shipping points out wide even with Briscoe in place.
I genuinely think that Hall has been unlucky during his time here. Due to circumstances he has been played largely as a utility back, which he clearly isn't. This has served to accentuate his flaws while hiding some of his strengths. This season in particular he's had his defensive frailties cruelly exposed due to our abysmal sliding defence, and I think he has then been trying too hard to compensate in attack which has led to him making mistakes there as well.
Anyway - he's going now and I can't help but think it's the best option for him. His style of play doesn't fit in with the way we operate and a change of club could be what he needs to move on with his game. Playing in a side that has a better defensive structure out wide and plays more expansive rugby would suit him down to the ground. I'll be following his progress with interest.

The upshot of it is mate is that he has failed to take numerous chances to establish himself in the squad because overall his level of performance has not met the standard. Had he been good enough 60+ appearances would have enabled him to cement his place but alas he has not. There's lot's of mitigating stuff some of which you list but top quality players are not usually allowed to leave clubs except maybe for financial reasons. If Wigan Saints Leeds or Wire sign him then fair play to him he has improved his lot and maybe he will shine. I suspect however that due to his ability and track record of overall performance the top SL clubs will not be in for him and that says much IMO.

Care to list those we have retained, who have gone on to "set the world alight"?

Think the point is the ones we have let go have never proved we should have kept them... the ones we have, have and are still a part of our main squad.

We've persevered with other players who have, IMO, contributed less [ioverall[/i than Hall and have less potential. But we're never going to agree on this one.

Shaun Briscoe??? We could argue if tony or tansey has been a better replacement since he's left

Graeme Horne - played 101 games? Tommy Lee lasted about the same time and played the same number of games I think. Just guessing.

I think both of those players were shown the door at the earliest opportunity by the current coach, weren't they? Or perhaps we're just becoming a little more ruthless in our approach to players who look unlikely to make the grade. I seem to remember having similar disagreements with people about Lee, if it comes to it. Some on here were saying he was the long term replacement for Berrigan, whilst I was saying he was only good enough for a lower end SL club or the championship. I don't think Lee has proved me wrong yet, and I strongly suspect Hall never will either.

Don't get me wrong here, I like briscoe but can you really see this season he has performed well.. personally I think Tansey has been better.. he still makes stupid decisions at times but with time on his side he can improve.. just my opinion tho..

| Hull have a habit of keeping players to long in the hope they come good, matty dale, Nathan freer, g.horne, t.lee to name a few. Now the issue is that Is either the club's fault for not harnessing their potential and duly keeping them to long or the players get into a comfort zone of thinking they have made it and the club duly keeping hold of them again. A more ruthless approach I agree with as we have kept hold of some right rubbish
