| Firstly, could we maybe have a seperate thread for petty sniping about what he has/hasn't done in his personal life and how he should/shouldn't be treated for it?
Secondly, looking at him from a playing perspective: I've never particularly rated him (how he's made national squads is beyond me), and his injury record is spotted with niggles. It's a questionable signing but does add numbers we need in the back row is only on a 1-year deal, so may work out ok.
Putting this signing together with Martin, it does look like the club are struggling with recruitment due to what's already signed up, hence the 1-year deals for uninspiring names. Looks to me like next year is the target for big moves. That said, I am still a bit disappointed and personally hope for a situation where Whiting/Turner/young backrower play sufficiently well enough for neither of them to be in the team, which is not indiciative of good signings.
I really hope there is still one more to come in.

| And to think the club have all over Obst in order to sign Aspinwall. Bet Obst feels great about it.

| Way too many "glass half full" Hull fans about, all last year all we wanted was Agar to go, well he has and we have a new coach. We havn't even seen the new team play yet and already half the people are writing off the season.
Give the new coaching setup a chance, the team we have are way capable of challanging. We have a good spine to the team and now we sign someone that means we will give the youth a chance and people moan. Again all last year all we heard was why dont we give the youth a chance and we will this year.
My glass is full right now and I think we will give it a real go next year and until I have a watched a few matches next season I am not going to start saying we wont do well right now before a ball as even been kicked.
Come on you 'ullllla
ps
Cannot wait to wear my new shirt.

| Aspinwall a good player, puts his body on the line everytime he takes the ball up and runs very strongly like briscoe. would of kept him at the giants but he was a naughty lad

Not really, it's irrelevant to Obst who comes in unless they are going to play in the same position he does. It's been well known for ages that Obst would rarely get a game if he stayed.

I satnd by that he should have been sacked and jailed. However I would not have then denied him a second chance to come back inot RL with another club. He would have served his time. Aspinwall has done wrong and has paid the price. Does he deserve to be continually punished, no.
Most teams have a troubled player or two.
Leeds - Bailey
Warrington - Monaghan
Wigan -Hock
Saints - Pryce (now Cats)
And most of the posters on here were gutted when Michael Crocker did not appear for the reasons we all know about

I don't think that is in question, everyone posting on this thread wants FC to do well and will be happy to say they were wrong if it turns out that Aspinwall and Martin et al prove them to be so, it's just a bloody big IF to some people.

| Aspinwall isnt a flashy player but he does the hard graft. Tackles well and makes some good yards when he has the ball. Played well last year for us and i would have kept him on for another year at least.

| Aspinwall is not the marque signing expected, he is however a good signing and one I welcome. The changes required are not going to happen over night Pete has inherited a squad and he has to work with it, not easy. He has a cap that also has for a greater extent been spent for them by the previous regime. They have to work within these restrictions and I do not expect miracles next season or even the season after. What I expect is progress I can see on the field, a team playing for each other with commitment and I know with Bomber around it will be there.
In 2005/6 we had got there we where the real deal and very shortly after the management sacked the coach and the decline really kicked in. I know fans have high expectations after the spin years we are running short of patience, but its going to take time. I want to see open attacking rugby with the ball moved around when the conditions permit, I do not mind losing if I enjoy what I see with a team giving more then 100%.
I am looking forward to a new season for the first time in three years with hope another year of the last regime would have killed this club.

I know, considering in most peoples opinion the only thing holding us back last year was Agar. He's gone,we've made some good signings in areas needed and it's still doom and gloom.

Not necessarily true, what if two of the youngsters come on really well this season? If O'Meley and Moa leave and the youngsters are ready why sign anyone? We would already have replacements!
