| Quote: Dave K. "Isn't the fact that Millers kicking game (which is one of our biggest problems)is about the worst I have seen from any of our halfbacks in the last few years, enough to say he isn't good enough to play SL yet. Add to the fact the rest of his game is hit and miss and he struggled to make a big impact in the championship with Donny, tells me this is the right decision at this time, in 2/3 years he may turn into a good halfback, but we can't afford to pay him six figures hoping he improves all of his game massively in the off season.'"
All true but if your main aim in life is to diss the coach then you have to ignore the plainly obvious.

| I think Seymour was scapegoated far more under Gentle (and I'm including AP in that) than Milky has been under Radders.

Purely for the cap he needs to move on, we can't afford to have a 4th or 5th choice halfback on a 6-figure salary. Now, as JTP said, if he was on a more realistic salary it may be worth persevering with him as he does have some potential, but we can't put two or three years into someone at that sort of salary or else all our juniors would want similar.'"
I'll echo that, sadly. I honestly thought (and still do) that Miller has very good potential. He could/should have been handled better here, and who knows, he might have done better if we had. I don't think it can be argued that he hasn't been given [iany[/i chance, though. Maybe not as much as some others, and arguably in less than ideal situations, but he did have chances he missed. After the Salford game I honestly thought he'd kick on, but it didn't really happen. I think people go OTT about him not being any good, though. He has shown glimpses, just not enough. It's similar to the blind Radford-knocking, it's not necessary to ignore the good things they've done to make a valid case, and if anything undermines the argument.
Didn't really deserve to be forced out IMO, but it's not exactly unfair or unjustified that we've brought other options in. Best for all that he move on to a decent club if he can now.

Spot on. I've seen suggestions on a few threads that Radford has finally fixed the problem previous coaches couldn't, but it's a little premature at this stage IMO.

A genuine question here - what has Miller done over 24 SL games that gives cause for hope that he has 'very good potential' ? I, like everyone else, was praying that he was the solution to the eternal problem but over his time he has failed to produce anything like the required level. When I read about all this potential I wonder if I missed something because I just haven't seen any facet of a scrum half's game that has been worthy of note from him (maybe the 'odd glimpse' as you put it but for me that doesn't prove anyone has 'very good potential'). He hasn't been 'rubbish' but that's not really the yardstick we should be using. When it was announced that he was going to Doncaster I wrote on here that if he really did have the skills to make it then this would be the perfect place to get on top of his game and showcase them. As far as I know there weren't anything other than 'steady' reviews from his games there at best.
As I said before and stress again none of this situation is his fault and he has obviously been a good club man during a difficult period for him so huge credit for that. But this talent and potential that I read about just hasn't been evident on the field. Regardless of anything else he has been a bad signing (again not down to him) but he wasn't what we wanted when he was signed and he hasn't (couldn't in my view) change that around when he was here. The fact that he appears to have been signed on a big contract again isn't his fault but is a good indicator of the poor way in which signings were handled when Pearson arrived and erroneously appointed McRae.

Miller has played 24 competitive games for Hull. Even if we pay him for this entire season without him playing another game that would mean we are paying him £240k+ per season. So not likely at all.

and again, where is the PROOF of his alleged salary, who told you what he earns, what substantive evidence have you seen?

Well firstly there are two things I should point out. 1) I disagree with the opinion that he hasn’t displayed the necessary skills of a half back. I don’t think he’s shown them often enough and at times not imposed himself enough on games, but I do think he’s shown himself to be capable of many of the skills required, just too rarely. 2) I think this year has been much more disappointing regarding him than last year, so much of the potential and skills point relates to what we saw last year, not this.
Last year I thought he steadily improved with pretty much every game, until the CC final. I thought at that time he looked confident, and he took the line on with more purpose and belief than he did this year. He has shown glimpses of being an elusive runner, has produced some excellent disguised passes (mostly no look short balls), and going against the grain I think he has shown occasional decent kicking ability (best example to mind is the Salford game this year). I think a lack of confidence this year has made him more hesitant attacking the line which directly reduced his effectiveness, as well as a lack of options contributing to the amount of times he ended up going down blind alleys and getting caught in possession. He has also been quite vocal during his time here, but obviously we fans still can’t know whether his on-field communication is any good.
So I disagree with any suggestions that we haven’t seen these abilities at all, but readily concede that they haven’t been produced anything like enough and cannot be relied upon. This is IMO down to a combination of Miller himself and the situation we brought him into. In hindsight, it was a poor/difficult match between club and player, particularly with the way Holdsworth turned out. I suspect that Miller is one of those players who perhaps needs to feel loved/valued for his confidence and to produce his best. Something we could have probably done much better with at the start of this season, but also arguably a questionable character trait for his position/role, where unshakeable self-belief bordering on arrogance is actually helpful.

| This is a difficult one for me. miller was seen to have real potential in the NRL, Gentle knew this from his time there and Gaz Ellis endorsed it also, maybe he wasnt ready for the NRL, but there was a belief he could graduate quicker in SL. To date his performances have not matched his potential.
I think a lot depends on coaching style and it seems Pg was tailor made for managing such potential, but less adept at managing the first team. In Lee Radford case I think he is moving the club, and it's playing staff and style in the right direction, but it's taking time of course. (remember It took Tony Smith 18 months to get a rudderless Wire back on track) I think Lee will do it and we will be a top 6 side again. However, his management of young potential is not proving to be his forte. I believe this is part of the early years Coaching syndrome and right now he is totally focussed on getting the first team firing. When this is done and the culture is "sorted" he will then I believe have more of an eye on being a guiding light to the youth. But right now he hasn't got the time, he needs to fix first team issues, he needs young players who can slot in and be 80% there. Some already are, Miller needs more time but he's on a first team wage!!! Big dilemma!! It's clear Jacob is not seen as ready by the coach, and I agree. After he was pushed out in the cold he was invited back, and I bet Radders really hoped that Miller would be at last showing something in his last chance saloon. I For a while he did, and I for one was happy, but he was still a bit headless chicken and sadly still not quite the answer. He has been given first team chances but he has shown no improvement, I believe the playing side and also his price tag is what is pushing him towards the door. If we could half his wage we could class him as one for the future and take time with him. But a top earner earns his keep on the pitch and that is the reason Adam and Lee have decided this is a "project to learn from" and sadly for everyone he will move on to someone's nursery ream where he may yet show the potential to come back and justify a top wage once again. But not today with Hull Fc

Did you actually read what I said? Or are you just too stupid to understand it?
I was taking Jake up on his claim that we will likely have paid him upwards of £25k per game by the time he leaves. I have no idea what Miller earns, but for that statement to be true he would have to be comfortably the top paid player in Superleague. He is obviously not.
