Sterling was world class. It would be like seeing Cronk or Thurston in a Hull shirt nowadays. Sneyd has been more influential than Sterling on our history though.

| Must be difficult being so overrated, such a bang average player, and fluking so many game defining moments in big important fixtures

I take extreme exception to that remark!! Are you possibly suggesting that in modern day sport, ginger coloured hair people have an upper hand on more mundane hair coloured people. I have slightly greying light brown hair and wouldn’t like to think that I’m follicley challenged

Not quite kiddo been going for almost 40 years so I seen it all, in the brief few games Sterling played he was amazing don't get me wrong but for a lasting legacy Sneyd wins for me.

I really dont think you can compare Sterling and Sneyd.
Peter Sterling was only with us for a short period and was world class.I wonder what we could have achieved if he had been with us for three or four seasons
Sneyd has been with us several years now and given us some memorable moments and i really hope he stays but take away his boot then you take away his effect on the field
Sterling had everything including the ability to tackle.

Not in my 70 plus years following Hull FC. That would go by a country mile to Tommy Finn who played there for 14 years and was in a team that played 3 consecutive League Championship Finals winning 2 back to back in the 50's.
Tommy also played in consecutive CC finals and many YC finals.

| Well FM above finished this discussion off for me, the three great Scrum halves of my life time but all completely different players, Finn the maestro of following a big pack who evolved into the leader of the team when that pack started to wane, Sterlo an absolutely enormous off the cuff player who made a team so much better every time he took to the field and Sneyd instigator of the game plan, master kicker and probably best game manager in the current British game. I do hope we can keep him for he will be remembered after he has gone as one of the Clubs all time greats.
However for me these comparison discussions are just apples and pears really because the game has changed so much in my 60 years of being a fan as has the role of a 7. In Tommy's day tackles were not restricted in numbers and the game was an attritional grind for 1-13 and the odd full back kicking duel was the only respite the players got. In Peters scrums had to be fed properly there were no 40/20's, few drop goals and scrum halves mixed it with the forwards on a regular basis, they certainly didn't move wide and out of the way when the tackling had to be done. So I doubt that Finn or maybe even Sterling could be as ,light on their feet as Marc or manage a game or kick like he does these days, but he certainly wouldn't be able to do what they did back then; no chance.
All Hero's of their time for me!
However if we have the ambition to rebuild the team from 2020 that Pearson hints at in the League Express today then we should build the team round Marc and Jake for me.

My following of the club does not go back that far so I will take what you and Wilf say about Tommy Finn as I only go back 39 years lol. We wouldn't have such amazing memories (and more to come hopefully) without Marc in the team so fingers crossed he stays.

It comes back to that debate we always have when we are selecting our all time best teams.
Do you go for the most talented player or the one who stuck around and made the biggest impact on the club?

I think Sneyd's kicking game if done in Auss would of been all over the media for a month. Am with you on choices Pete but feel Chris Davidson [Hulls seventh forward Wigans description] was good, in a not very good side
