I doubt they'll be going into London, the team hotel will be North or West of London (at a guess, somewhere around Egham) but congestion starts around Northampton, so an earlier set off would have been better

unfortunately I have, but still feel the m6 is the busiest, especially between Birmingham and Manchester, m25 in summer is murder though
