| Rich people and domination where it ever so, they think that money gets you your own way, he's a bit too arrogant for me or indeed as has been said the good name of the game. Let's face it he voted for the IMG stuff now when it doesn't suit him cos someone has bagged his prize possession from under his nose, he's shouting his mouth off about how what he voted for is all wrong, just to get at those who have put one over on him. What a dick.

Well a prize possession he might have been but now becoming - a little harsh to be fair - a liability. Limited game time when “fit”, not influencing the game the same, just back from a ban and another one coming - hope he has a really good pre season for you guys because I think stop/start injuries have hampered him

| Re the salary spend, james clark has a lot to answer for in terms of recruitment and retention. No surprise he was quickly shown the door when myler arrived

Should never have been given the job by Pearson. He's a good bloke to have on the commercial side but shouldn't have been let near the salary cap or playing side

| Quote: BP1 "I would agree with you, up to a point.
There was clearly a decision taken to reduce squad investment in 2023/24 with the expressed aim of reducing certain long-standing debt, thereby putting the club on a sounder financial footing going forward. They were helped in this aspect by having the safety net of 'no-relegation' underneath us, thereby removing any consequences in that direction.
I would agree also that I too don't believe the club simply wrote the season off right from the word go. I suspect Pearson/Clark/Smith probably thought the players we acquired last winter would make us a reasonably competitive outfit, whilst not exactly challenging for honours, a water-treading season in effect.
Hindsight has shown that not to be the case, obviously! The majority of those recruited for this season did not live up to even a modest billing with most being moved on elsewhere.
But I still think that the squad, as poor as it turned out to be, should still have been better than what we have had to witness over the past seven months. We should not be sat here in early September ruminating over a record of W3 - L22 (plus one cup hammering). We really should have witnessed at least a handful of victories over the course of the year, around 7/8 wins which would have put us roughly alongside Hudds/Cas. In that scenario I think most of us on here would have accepted that is, unfortunately, where we are at in 2024.
In short, we ended up with a poorly assembled squad which, in turn, has managed to underperform even against the low expectation most of us had at the start of the year. No wonder we have a record of 3 wins in 26 games this year!
The reasons why they have underperformed so spectacularly are, in my opinion, a direct consequence of the way the club is being run from top to bottom, as expanded upon at length in earlier posts! Until those root causes are systematically addressed, we will simply repeat the errors of recent years over and over again like some ever-repeating groundhog day.
Someone, probably a combination of Myler-Cartwright has to break this cycle and attitude and fairly sharpish or this club will simply continue to drift ever downwards and backwards.
We are stood on the cliff-edge right now, one more step backwards and it's........'"
In my opinion, the club wrote the season off, before a ball was kicked.
Anyone who has watched SL, realises the core of a team's success, is fitness and conditioning,
Our Head of Strength and Conditioning departed before pre season started, and was not replaced, nor was the Head Physio.
It is virtually physically impossible to compete, if a group of players who are at a disadvantage from the get go.
Pearson could have diverted funds from recruitment, but he chose not to.
We are, where we are ,due to this idiotic decision.

Who was our head of strength and conditioning I honestly can’t remember one for years? As far as I know we’ve got a bloke coming in for pre season but not heard we’ll be appointing someone full time in that role yet.

The Head of Strength and Conditioning was Callum Christopherson. He joined Hull KR November 2023.

| The s&c team work under the direction of the head coach. He'll tell them what he wants and its then their job to prep the players to the coach's needs. An experi3mced one will also give advice but I doubt smith would listen to advice from anyone else. Presumably why Ellis left

I don't think Ellis wanted to leave, I think Smith suggested to him it was time to move on to pastures new.
I've not read his book but I think that's what happened.

That's what I meant. He probably challenged smith on some of his think8ng which wouldn't have gone down well.

| I was told ages ago by a couple of ex-players that they all looked up to ellis and admired his dedication far too much for Smiths liking he was described as having to be the supremo at the club and Ellis was was told it was time to move on.

When you pick the bones out the rotting carcass that Smith preceded over that would seem very plausible especially given Gaz’ professionalism and genuine love for this club. It seems very much a case of Smith removing anyone that questioned or posed a threat to him within the club, much like some from the dark side had said would be the case.
Cartwright & Myler have a massive job on their hands but think Lasty with Ellis will be invaluable assets. As for Grix for me he can go as he is too Smith orientated and not sure he is the right fit.

Surely the new role for Gaz has to be linked to the coaching set up thats why i think they will pay Grix off now Last is on his way back

| It's a pointless argument, if relegation was on the table we wouldn't have released players and made the changes we have plus the club would have spent at full cap despite the Chairmans claim. They'd have gone out for better players but I do think we have put the cue on the rack as a club unfortunately for us fans, at least it's winding a few chairman, fans and pundits up.

100% rightly or wrongly, we have used this to reset.
Get rid of some poor value for money players, some not good enough, play some players.
We could have panicked like the past and signed players just for the sake of it on loan term deals, but we have waiting and tried to get in the right players to improve us on and off the field.
If that's works, we will have to see.
