It was certainly a penalty, any contact with the head accident or not is a penalty these days.

| Just looked at the stats, unbelievable effort to win that game, they had nearly 10 more sets, 3 times as many offloads as us, somehow we made more breaks than them.
Some good meters made from nearly all the forwards, lots of missed tackle but you would exepct that given the circumstances, but the cover defence was outstanding.

Then that is ridiculous. You have to use some common sense. Not something referees are blessed with granted.
But how many times do we see accidental clash of heads.
Going by that rule it should be a penalty. But who too?

What if the accident was against one of your own team?

| From what I've seen of the highlights (wasn't at the game) all of cas's try were defensive errors,
Minilkin try had Sneyd Taylor and Shaul around him and at least one of them should of made a tackle on him
Ben Roberts try (maybe short by some social media posts) if we let him up to play there didn't get someone behind the POTB til late also miss tackle from Ellis and Green.
Shentons try is missed tackles by Thomo and Sneyd
Roberts second Carlos ball watching
And McMeeken try is out numbered on the edge which with 12 men in the last minute could be excused
I'm not having a go at the team cos it was a good defensive effort all round but I still think we need to tweak tho little things if we're are going to be serious title contenders

Tries like that irritate me. 3 players chasing across, if just one of them backs off and anticipates the step back on the inside then the tackle is made.

Contact with the head while making the tackle, i.e. arm hitting his head. Clash of heads is not a head high tackle. We've had that rule for quite some time I believe, and it's quite right as well. You haven't been tackled fairly. But if completely accidental and not reckless or malicious, a penalty is all it should be in my opinion. Some promote the idea that head highs should be an automatic yellow.

I wonder what the charge against Watts will be as it cant be classed as a head high tackle in the true sense.
The fact that the player is falling and photos clearly show his head is at the level of Watts top leg and his arm is still at his side.
Has to be sending off sufficient for me.
Im more concerned about what Kelly is on report for.

A bite apparently. But I dont recall Gale showing his arm (or wherever he claims to have been bitten) to the ref, so how it is proved I have no idea

Well if he is proven guilty of biting, we have lost him for a while, that's min grade E, he'd be looking at 4 to 8 games out. I'm surprised we've not heard more about it if that is the charge.

| The fact is the Officials have been p155 poor as the decisions by the ref's or lack of regarding both Ferres & Westwood shows this. Now because the refs are not seen to be held accountable they now seem hell bent on carding players because they are sadly lacking in ability and sense as officials.
If the Watts incident was a red card then McShane should have seen a yellow for running in trying to throw his handbag, Shenton was also guilty of a similar incident in the 2nd half that saw Turget sin binned and banned for an elbow to the face of the tackled player.
The Officials under the stewardship of Ganson are a complete farce and the standard and level of consistency is pretty poor. Unless the RFL tackle the issues with regards the standard of officials the sport will continue to suffer. For me both Childs and Hicks as linesmen where pretty much a 'look at me' type of official and since becoming Ref's that ego seems to be growing along with some of the other ref's. Whilst they are an important facet of the game they have to realise they are not some kind of RL Gods.

Dave K said "any contact with the head, whether accidental or not, is a penalty".
I was referring directly to the wording of that rule.
