| I started this thread and have enjoyed reading it since Sunday - It now seems that Radford reads it cos Jacob is in the squad for Friday. And welcome back also Jay Pitts.

I wonder if they'd have been in if Ellis and Paea had been available.

| Quote: Staffs FC "If Miller plays he obviously needs a run of games in order for him to stamp his authority on the team and run the attack. That is what he will have to do over the course of a few games as that's the job of the scrum half. People will need to assess whether he's done that over a period of time as you say not just after one or two games. Having said that it's not a player nursery it's Super league level - the 'experienced' players in the halves were poor in the last game so over the course of 5-10 games Miller will need to prove that he can be consistently better than them.'"
I have no doubt you'll be this reasonable, others I'm not so sure about.

Don't think he's picked Miller to play prop!

Not exactly a unique selection choice. Gentle did it too.

Didn't have a scrum half who hadn't been given a chance sat in the West Stand though did we?

| If Miller does play, it will be hard to stamp his authority on the game, due to the lack of the 'big boppas' playing & setting a platform.
Personally,I'd like to see Miller & Rankin given a run of games together to develop cohesion., both of them should've played together from pre-season until now.- but thats past now.

Fair point but wasn't it the derby last year at the KC that Gentle chose to play Azza and Whiting in the halves and Horne at full back? And do the same with Azza and McGoldrick the year before in a few games, again putting Horne at full back?

As far as I can remember that was due to injuries.I could be wrong though.Weren't Holdsworh and McDonnell injured when we played Rovers at the KC.

I think injuries did instigate it on most of those occasions but there were certainly other options in most of those matches other than moving Horne out of the halves. The derby I mentioned being a prime example. Whiting has played at full back before but it was decided to move Horne out of the halves and put Whiting there instead.
I'm just saying that Radders isn't the first coach to make surprising choices in the halves.

I see your point but we have 3 fit halfbacks yet he insists on playing Heremaia out of position

I'm frustrated by it too. Heremeia is much better as an interchange hooker complimenting Houghton.

| Quote: frepneyboy "Doesnt fit with the "live cap" IMO
I reckon Salford have loaded their big gun contracts on the last year, thats why they are on 4 year deals, do you really think Hock will do 4 years there?'"
The much-lauded 'live cap' simply means that a club's cap liability is monitored at all times rather than retrospectively assessed at the end of the season. If you read the cap rules it makes it clear that the cap value of a player does not depend on when he receives the money - or even if he ever does. It's the total value of his contract divided by contract length.
Offering a player a longer contract and then terminating early still reduces your cap liability if you release him between seasons. Basically you offer him 3 years worth of salary spread over 4 years to reduce the per-year cap liability, then release him after 3 years with the rest of his contract paid up. The final year's worth of cap liability simply goes away.
