I agree Houghton is a better hooker but Josh is progressing well and playing a couple positions, we need more than one hooker he wont be on a kings ransom either, leaving salary cap to be spent elsewere. Wheeldon i like very proffessional, runs hard, still young with time to learn far better than Thackray who we kept which was my point.

The thing about Hodgson and Wheeldon is that they were/are club-trained for you guys. If you're looking to replace Horne and Briscoe departs to the NRL in the not too distant, you're down to Yeaman and Houghton as definate members of your first choice 17, with Whiting there or thereabouts. That limits scope for recruitment and adding depth to your squad.
Washbrook, Hall and Wheeldon may not be world-beaters, but they'd have allowed you options that (for example) Turner, Sharp and O'Carrol don't. Hindsight is great, but a policy of 'not good enough, get rid' in anticipation of plenty more where they came from, ignored that there is now competition for local youngsters.

So we keep players not good enough so we have enough home trained players. The home trained players will be made up of youth players, such as green, crooked, Nicklaus, kent, Pearce, Bowden, Lyne and the Cunningham brothers. We will be fine now we have a coach and management who care about youth. Neither wheeldon or Hodgson would get into our first choice 17 and will be on a lot more money than the players mentioned above, so no regrets for me on this issue.

We have Kent,Cooks and Bowden to replace those not good enough and other players coming through the ranks as well.We shaould have kept them as they are club trained,if thats the case,clubs will not sign anyone and just rely on players who are not good enough or a shed load of Aussies.

Forget about Elliot Whitehead coming to Hull - he has signed a new five year deal at Bradford according to George Riley on twitter.

I think though that hodgson would have been a great back up for Houghton, and would have enabled us to use Heremaia's wage elsewhere.
