Over simplyfying it by using numbers to evaluate a players performance may make people like you flick the bean but it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I think Hall's problem is that he couldn't tackle a hot dinner. As a centre, there are still options either side, on the wing, the only other option is the touchline. Coming inside, off his wing excuses him from any sort of defensive effort.

The touchline is one of the best defenders on the park. It never gets pulled out of postion and has an impregnible outside shoulder.

Would have been a good option, but I think the question marks over Long and Horne meant that someone who could cover 6 and 7 was a higher priority for the club. I think they thought they had the Raynor situation under control and got caught out by events.'"


I'm not convinced enough by Turner at 6 for that though, and definitely not at 7. I think we may have been better served by a winger/fullback and using Tansey in the halves.

How can you comment on a team's performance without referencing individual contributions? I've already said that, bar Manu, we've been garbage today. Hall's first half defensive/positioning was worthy of note IMO.
