| Good win and certainly looks like Wakefield are down, sadly for their fans. Thought Taylor and Sao were great tonight, with Lane more direct too. Danny Houghton looked great and Sutcliffe was an inspired signing, always looking to attack and very solid in the tackle. Ref was a bit too involved for me, too many six agains and Clifford's try being ruled out was poor from the officials just as Come On You Ull has said, best stats since Toulouse away, defensively, and we can build on this. Shows how close things are when we are level on points with Saints, albeit played more games and just 4 off the Dragons. Can build into the season and the playoffs should be our goal now, relegation looks banished from our minds now and Smith can take us to a far better level, with some clever recruitment next year. I would definitely have a look at Whitbread for a possible signing , thought he was good and hope for Wakey's loyal diehards that they can survive the drop. Michael Carter was almost resigned to the fact , judging by his pre-match interview and it is hard to see where their next win will be, they have nothing in attack.

| latest on Listen is heartening. Smith said
“I think Davy is ok, he said he could have kept going but he has never had an ankle problem before. He has just twisted his ankle and he said he panicked a little bit.

Some great work from the backs. Taylor topped the tackle count with 42, which is impressive as he played about 60 minutes, been our best prop this year IMO, certainly deserves a new deal, think people have been a bit unfair to him, suffered injuries the last two years and and this is his first pre season in 3 years, looks fit and strong.
Griffin for all his faults, works very hard 74 minutes, 31 tackle (one miss), 14 runs for 126 metres. Can we sign better than him in the current market, like Taylor depends on the salary, but I'm not sure we can.

| My issue with giving Staveley a game is if he’s leaving I’d rather us invest our time in another you 2nd row/LF like Armstrong or Jebson shame Severs is injured.

Agreed, but the signs point to the fact he is staying, not on the OOC list and Smith bigging him up in a recent interview.

| Can anyone tell me when we last had a game where we weren’t still nervous in the last 5 minutes. Not the highest quality game but I enjoyed it and think they’ll have learnt a lot about the side.. som real resilience.
Another good game for Litten, he just needs to work on his awareness, he’s a bit greedy. Could’ve passed inside for his try against Leigh and should’ve passed to swift yesterday. A season or 2 on the wing will give him time to develop and our attack will be more fluid with Hoy back.
In this market I’m giving Tag, Griff and houghton one year deals. Hopefully cheap and then we can take some punts on prospects with more security.
I liked the look of the Eseh. Huge frame, athletic and looked difficult to tackle. I’d consider bringing him in as a squad player and see how he develops.

| What's changed in the camp? Have the players finally bought into Smith's methods? Has the dropping of lovodua, Evans and savellio been a wake up call for others? Whilst we still look like we're lacking a bit of confidence in attack, it's great to see the defensive resilience back and them working hard for one another again

But likes of Taylor Houghton Griffin will never be cheap
Keep taylor he's still our best prop
Griffin not sure if he's truly cut out for a 2nd row and has no pace for centre
Houghton get rid , dwyer was good last night 3 breaks more of that needed
Clifford is our best half back since Kelly

| Good to get the two points, and 3 games on the spin we have limited the opposition to no more than 2 try's, which is quite impressive with the amount of defence we have done during those wins. I thought we could of been smarter at some points, but that will come, I feel Trueman and Clifford will really complement each other once they are on the same wave length, which could of course take a few weeks with them only playing 120 minutes of competitive rugby together. We seem to have a bit of confidence now, hopefully we can take that into the cup next week.
I have to say, Wakey really are done for. They have batted above their weight and scraped by for a long time, however it feels like time has finally caught up to them and their fait is all but sealed by mid-may. I can't say I have much sympathy, to be honest, but they are destined for the championship, which when you take into consider their on-field and off-field resources is probably where they belong.

Agree on Clifford and Taylor.
For me Griffin depends on what is available on the market. If there isn't much out there I'd be happy enough to keep him on for another year and see how he gets on. He's runs some decent lines and often seems a handful when hitting the line at pace.
I am still not convinced on Dwyer. He is definitely capable of adding a spark and creating something but he also takes some bad options, particularly on the 5th tackle. Both qualities were on show last night. Again, it very much depends on who is available for me.

He reminds me of Masi Matongo, big frame but just doesn't look aggressive enough or run his weight for me.
