Agree with you and others that this is kind of indicative of our problems. Selection just doesn't seem to be driven by performance. What reason do players have to perform at Hull? If you're an established player you'll play regardless, if you're a fringe player you'll perpetually used as a stopgap and little more. We're reliant on players' personal pride and competitiveness, but the last few years have shown us that we can't count it.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |

| Quote: Dave K. "Naughton? Looks a good prospect, signed a one year deal didn't he, he plays very well in all of his games (all of which we won) and then for no reason gets dropped for Radford's favourites. I wouldn't be suprised if we lose him to another club and wouldn't blame him TBH.
Also I'd have you over Howarth in the squad, there must an under 19's player better than him, who would love to be called up.'" I wouldn't disagree about Naughton, but if Sa is going back to centre then he would probably drop out of the 19 anyway.
I always assume that Howarth would always drop out of the 19, but he's played plenty at loose forward, so that, unfortunately, is probably why he's been getting picked.

The U19's could be called on surely?

Exactly right. Not claiming he's a world-beater, but he's come in and played well, and as you say we won every game. Dropping him for someone who has been underperforming for a while just sends out completely the wrong message.

If Howath is holding back a u19 player then AP and LR should hang their heads in shame

Howarth has been playing LF (For about 20 minutes)
I would rather play Abdul, Downs, Fash or Turgut.

| It begs the question as to why Ben Crooks was shipped off to Aus yet Yeaman is getting picked no matter how he performs.

| That 19 just sums up Radford inability to put out a TEAM instead of a bunch of players.
Abdul should be in the 17 to replace Westerman and why he still seems to think putting 3 Hookers in the 19 is a master stroke I'll never know.
Naughton has shown pace and bags of enthusiasm when he's taken the field which is more than can be said of certain players who seem untouchable.
Gentle was given the boot and had us playing argueably better rugby and at least didnt fill the 19 with players for the sake of it he actually brought in the younger players that play the positions we were light in.
Anything other than a comprehensive win is not good enough and in all honesty I can can see us just sneaking a win and only just.
I think alot of blame has been laid at Gentles door over not giving youth a chance when in fact it can be argued he put many of the young fringe players in the 17 when we had injuries & suspensions and the club have seen the benefit of this with Lineham, Shaul and Crookes before the club seemingly binned him off.

Because Yeaman would tackle a brick wall if you asked him. Rightly or wrongly, I think that's more important to our coach than attacking capabilities.

I recall a certain Ben Crooks playing 80 minutes for the U19's against Bradford a few years ago and then lining up for the senior squad straight afterwards so I'm sure it's possible they could be called on to play on a Friday night and again on the Saturday if necessary. And the U19 player that has been selected has been selected to replace an injured player, not a dropped player. Which is what has caused concern. Nobody criticised last week by Radders has been dropped. The only player dropped from the squad wasn't even involved in last week's performance.
As Carl Spacker said, our selections don't seem to be based on performance but more on who is considered to be an established player. So it seems that regardless of how certain players perform each week they'll be straight back in the team the following week.
