Any router should be compatible with karoo so logn as you change the VCI/VPI settings from 0,38 (BT) to 1,50.
All Netgear routers are pretty good and easy to configure. Their latest offering has USB sharing over network too

| Quote: muddyboots "I wanted to get the kids online with their pc and rang karoo and asked for a router and the dongle package as I was still using a modem,
they charged me 40 odd quid for the router and £16 for the dongle but then in the same call explained I was on an old package and would I want to change? so I did.
the router and dongle arrived 2 days later and I got it all set up for the kids and in readiness for the new package in 7 days time and a day before it was activated in the post came another new fecking router that is given out as standard when you switch.
There was still 2 weeks before I actually paid for the first one so I explained I didn't need this one and would they take it back and cancel the 40 quid payment but they just said sell it if you don't need it.
so they robbed me of 40 quid and I gave it away for free but the good news for you is I checked their value on ebay and the same router is on there for about a tenner brand new , its a Thomson v585 but you will need the dongle too which shouldn't be much.'"
If you have switched to one of the 'mid' packages, you could have refused the modem, and demand that you don't want to go on another 12 months contract.

No. They are not amazing. Never said they were. They are certainly not a poor ISP either, never mind "the worst ever". Indeed they were nominees for "Best Consumer Fixed Broadband", "Best Consumer Customer Service ISP" and "Digital Inclusion" this year.
Do you live your life on complete extremes?
FWIW, I can't speak for every user of Karoo obviously, but I personally don't have any complaints about the service. I get really good download speeds (averaging 6mb, sometimes 7) and I use it regularly (VPN, Skype, Sling etc) and very rarely have any problems.
I do have an issue about the lack of choice and the effective monopoly that is in place for internet access in the area. But it is very debatable if that is KC's fault and indeed, apparently you are able to get other services now - Sky told me at the weekend they could now supply my internet, although only at 500k and with bloody expensive connection fees and apparently there is a satellite service now available.
There is a real test for KC coming though and that is the next generation of internet access (fiber optic etc) and how they get that out to their customers.

| 6meg download speeds nowadays are pretty poor when you consider BT are rolling out 50meg broadband.
Agreed Karoo are not the worst ISP but they are far from the best.

I swear by it, was a bit weak set at 54mbps but after setting for 108Mbps it's signal is great, plus very easy setup, just about does it itself. I have my PC in loft conversion, but get just as strong a signal in living room to laptop, passing through 2 floors. In fact at these prices i may just get another one in case this one throws the towel in. I've had it for about 4 yrs.'"
thats the one i ended up getting.

| I have a Netgear that is starting to turn in poor performances, constant disconnecting and re-connecting. I rang KC and they want to send an engineer out. The house is a new build so I can't see it being a line issue. Is there anything I can do to confirm it's a router problem?

Disconnect any phones in the house and swap your Micro Filters about (use one at a time to see if this resolves the problem and if so which filter needs replacing). Micro Filter failure is usually the culprit for your problem. KC will charge you for the visit and charge over the odds for a new Micro filter/splitter if this is your problem. If they want to pay you a visit it sounds as though they're saying it's alright at their end.
