Problem is, without a decent coach at the helm, we won't get a decent team. We need someone who can highlight the deficiencies in our squad, then go out and sign the right player to address those weaknesses. We then need that someone to have a coherent plan for how the team will play, and the experience/gravitas to put that over to his players. Signing better players under the current regime would certainly improve things, but it won't solve our fundamental underlying problems.

| It was almost as if wigan were playing a different game to us. Intensity all through the game, winning the collision in both defence and attack, managing the speed of the PTB, running and defending with purpose and plenty of movement off the ball confusing our (admittedly poor) defence.
All of this can be coached, including attitude and commitment

| Went to watch Wesy Hull again today against East Leeds. Much more enjoyable than watching FC. Played good rugby and defended really well. Hull should go down and train with them and see the enthusiasm Wests had, could learn a thing or two.

You list many of the things we were doing early season. We've been capable but are unable to deliver the same things now. If I knew why, I'd probably be head coach.

Maybe the players are sick of being publicly criticised and playing the FC hokey cokey

He was bad both ways, at no point did I blame the defeat on the referee (I actually posted that at half time) so how about you wind your neck in.

| the pack have done nothing since poore, weyman n the rest of the hkr pack ran over them at caravan park. they just look like theyve no more will to fight, especially the props. the back line arent the best but could compete with most sl sides barring the top 4/5, but not behind a pack with no heart. (some look dissinterested, some look like rabbits in the headlights n othes look like they lost their will to fight since the hkr game)
we dont even have dummy runners to confuse the defence, n a lot of the time the man with the ball has no support either.
hate to say it but i fear for us at magic as this lot look beat before we start n hkr will show no mercy n delight in humiliating us

Maybe they are but is comes with the territory with life as a professional sportsman. Plus the goldfish bowl that is Hull FC means very close scrutiny. That said, even the most knuckle headed Hull FC player should expect some sort of fan backlash after recent performances.

They wouldn't expect the coach to name them and criticise them on local radio

I came to the game on Friday fearing the worst after looking at your team sheet. I do agree with the poster. I think the difference is coaching. Wigan very rarely let the performance level slip under Wane. Even when we lose it isn't by many. It is almost as though whoever wears the shirt would run through a brick wall for Wane.
I don't think you get that by just shouting at players. Sure, Wane has his moments but most of the youngsters are HIS lads. He played a big part in bringing them through the ranks and takes great pride in getting them into the first team. He never worries about giving a young lad a debut either. The respect is palpable. Shouting at people only works once - if they don't respond, where do you go next?
Now to me - Hull clearly over reacted getting rid of Gentle. With a better luck they could have won the Challenge Cup. Jamie Shaul's break could almost have swung the game, although credit Charnley for his tackle. The game really was close until Tomkins try somewhat flattered us.
In other words there was a basis on which to build. Hull have some good youngsters especially in the backs - and by the way I believe Chris Tuson isn't going so well. I'd have him back tomorrow. I'm sure he can be a good player for you.
Good luck at Magic.
