I know we're not going to appoint a top NRL coach but I don't really get the buzz about Watson. Yes they had a good run at the end of last year but they had some poor performances earlier in the season. They finished next to bottom in 2019. The only avoided relegation in 2016 by a drop goal.

+ making Wembley sounds really good until you look into it & realise they only needed to win 2 games to make it.

| To be fair who’s to say Watson would be as good at another club where you’re not perennial underdogs?
He’s not guaranteed to repeat the success elsewhere. Players are the same. Has Hastings been as good at Wigan, I’d argue not TBH.
No matter who we appoint, people will moan. Even if we got Craig Bellamy there’d be something wrong with the appointment.
Just looking forward to some different ideas around the club.

Thats always the risk with going for an up and comer rather than an experienced guy. Watson and Ward both seem to both have plenty of coaching talent, but they've done it at very small clubs with little expectation or scrutiny. Hull head coach is arguably the highest pressure coaching job there is. Not everyone can deal with that.
That said I'd be happy with either. A fresh face with new ideas.

It didn't do Mcdermott any harm swapping London for Leeds initially did it.
I wouldn't agree either that Hull is the highest pressure job there is, I'm sure Wigan, Saints and Leeds fans etc would disagree with you.
Expectations and budgets vary at all clubs, but I don't thing their head coaches are any more or less pressurised than Hull's.

Anyone who’s going to come in with some fresh ideas gets my vote. We’ve been crying out for it for a couple of years now.

Like I said, its a risk, but that doesn't mean the risk won't pay off. McDermott is proof of that.
Whether Hull is the highest pressure job out there is up for debate. But its kind of beside the point. All Im saying is there would be a lot more pressure and expectation than either of them are used to.
Anyway, I'd be pleased with either of them. I think Ward is more likely, and thats fine by me. That London squad last year was a championship team in all but name, and they came agonisingly close to survival with some great wins and performances along the way. I'd be very interested see what he can do with a lot more weapons at his disposal.

Not ttrying to be funny or negative but didnt they beat Saints youth team twice and without those wins they'd of been dead and buried before the end of the season? Cant remember them playing champagne rugby and beating teams a lot better than them like Salford do under Watson
Ref Wane i dont get why people think he wont leave the England RL coaching position - basically there is no more international RL for at least another year and certainly wont be a world cup for a year or two - hes a proven winner, makes teams aggressive, competitive and improves youth - he is the only man we should be looking at

They won 10 games. At the start of the season some people were even predicting them to not win any because their squad was so poor. Ward got the best out of some nothing players and got them competing well. I think you are underestimating how weak that squad was.
I would say Wane is the high percentage choice. He is a proven winner, I'm sure he would make us a better team and get us up and around the playoffs. But it probably won't be pretty. Id be content with us signing any of the 3 tbh.

That there drop goal, was one of thee greatest sporting achievements.

| As I say I'd be underwhelmed with Watson however at least it would be a new start of sorts.
Mad to think that in twenty years we've only brought a new coach in to the club twice (Sharp and Gentle). Kear, Agar, Radford and Last were all promoted from within the club.

| Key criteria would be
1. Greater distance from the playing squad & more authority
2. Rebalance the squad - bring in a quality prop for starters and a replacement for Kelly
3. Bring back the steel to our defence we had a few years back. Improve line speed x10, sort the goal line.
4. Leverage the attacking talent we have. Connor, Carlos, Griffin, Sneyd, Fonua - get them working as a cohesive unit.
The club need to manage expectations better too. Every club aspires to silverware but we're starting from around 8th with a new coach and likely a weaker squad next year. Aims should be to improve home form, avoid blow out defeats and create consistency, bring some youngsters through and balance the books in an incredibly challenging environment.

He's turned us down once already before Lee was appointed can't see Adam going back there again. I'm wondering if Steve McNamara is back in the frame. He's on his own over in France at present and all his family still live around Hull.

Didn’t Macca also turn us down, or withdraw from the running Wilf, or is my old memory playing tricks again.
