Well done boys, that was outstanding, Westy superb, and the returning Gaz Ellis an enforcer which who is irreplaceable, super atmosphere and a reet good session going home.
Not many will win at the pie dome, hope we can kick on now, we have good players to come back.

I didn't have much luck with the 79th minute equaliser costing me four hundred quid. icon_lol.gif
But bollox to that.
The boys finally caught a break and that's all that matters.
Think it could have finally broke us if Hardaker had converted but instead we went on to create Golden Point history.
Fine lines, innit?

The stats make better reading for the forwards this week. Still struggling to make significant inroads, the metres per carry were not impressive, but pretty much all of them put their hand up and did plenty of work.

Paea, 12 carries for 64 metres.
Masi, 10 for 51
Thompson, 14 for 65
Ellis, 9 for 55
Mini, 21 for 116
Manu, 19 for 101
Lane, 7 for 46
Westerman, 17 for 70

Also not one of them made a handling error and they conceded only 4 penalties between them.

Nothing there is headline grabbing, none of them managed much more than 6 metres per carry, but it just proves that if they can just hold their own, we have enough quality elsewhere to get the job done.

Poor stats from masi again, bit surprised though, sounded like he had a good game

I was surprised when I looked at the table that the team losing to the golden point doesn't get anything, Wigan are still on 0. In a lot of other sports, like Ice Hockey, the team losing in overtime gets a point for the draw after full time.

I thought he players well, brought an offload game. His defence us brilliant, think he will just keep getting better and better.

Nah, I am ok with that. I think we need to accept that he is never going to be a one man wrecking crew, but he is a very solid tackler, he makes minimal errors and has a presence which attracts defenders. If he can up his work rate (10 carries is fine) and work on his offload game (really good one led to Tuimavave scoring yesterday) then he can be a useful player.

I still think he runs too upright into contact though. He is a tall guy anyway, so the way he runs makes him too easy to stand up and drive back. Needs to lower his shoulders into the collision and then you might find that his leg drive will get him a lot more metres after contact.

this is much more consistent. i don't think it is the metres per carry thats the issue, it is the errors and penalties conceded giving the opposition easy metres. Also looks like everyone shared the work this time rather than a couple of them only doing 3 or 4 carries as in the last game. Knock similar stats out to those every week and put bowden and taylor in there and we will be fine

Fantastic win, great effort all round, well done LR and the team for achieving a very rare victory against Wigan on their home soil.

As far as I can tell, these are all our league victories against Wigan away between 1895 and 2015.

Sat 7 Dec 1895 Hull Home Lost 00-03
Sat 31 Jan 1903 Hull Home Lost 02-03
Wed 12 Apr 1905 Hull Home Lost 03-10
Sat 20 Sep 1919 Hull Home Lost 05-11
Sat 4 Nov 1922 Hull Home Lost 09-10
Sun 25 Oct 1981 Hull Home Lost 05-18
Wed 11 Jan 1989 Hull Home Lost 20-35
Sun 6 Sep 1992 Hull Home Lost 13-14
Fri 5 Apr 2002 Hull FC Home Lost 18-20
Fri 10 Jun 2005 Hull FC Home Lost 24-28
Fri 30 Aug 2013 Hull FC Home Lost 33-34

Not many I'm afraid, I knew they were few and far between, but the odds seem to have been stacked against us whatever team we may have had. None in the 1950's for example.

Some of the gaps will be when we didn't play them at all, fixtures were often regionalised in the dim and distant past.

(Roughly 61 Wigan home wins during the same period.)

We won there in 2016 (Jamie Shaul sealed it with a long range try), and 2017 as well (Kelly scored that try where he pinballed off 5 or 6 defenders). It's actually not a bad hunting ground for us in recent times.

He did have a good game and a couple of decent offloads too.
Stats dont always tell the story.
