| Quote: Airlie Street "Ah that was the life, the best three years of your life being an undergraduate! Unfortunately your either misinformed or wilfully ignorant when it comes to PhD's.
For a start PhD students don't pay tuition their sponsors do, they don't have jobs because they don't have the time and they already get paid for doing the PhD in the first place (Tax free I might add!).
I guarantee the hours involved in a PhD are far more than what you work so don't get too cocky!
As for jobs, well that all depends on what you do, there isn't much call for a PhD in philosophy, however stick to the high paid science subjects and your laughing!'"
Being a science student, you are also misinformed as to how non-science subjects get funded, or not as is usually the case. Think yourself lucky if you have funding, most studying PhDs (plural not possessive, so no apostrophe) in the arts and social sciences have to pay their own fees, and work a hell of a lot just to do that.
As for there not being much call for a PhD in philospohy, you would be surprised. Arts etc. show more versatility than sciences, which are more vocational. For example, English can be taken into almost all vocations, as it is multidisciplinary.
So you can be cocky in your funded ivory nanostructered tower, but as for the rest of us who do need a cheaper season pass because we're skint, at least we can spell.

Actually one of the most widely applicable degrees is Physics. You'd be surprised at some of the careers that take Physics graduates due to the broad range of skills developed.

PhDs as a Pyramid scheme:
www.economist.com/node/17723223
Dragging things vaguely back on topic with a true story - a PhD student of my acquaintance went to see his beloved Aston Villa play yesterday. £39 for his ticket. 39 effin' pundy. Fair enough it was for seat near the halfway line, but a standard seat - no cushion, complimentary drinks or half-time neck massage.
edit: and they lost.

Just got back from my hols. No brochure. Presume I can go to the ticket office next week with my old pass and pay cash?

All pass renewals are being handled by the shop not the ticket office (not sure if AP is bypassing the SMC this year) so you need to go in there. I went in today and renewed by DD but was told that officially the renewal start date is 3rd Sept, I was given a hand written receipt for my first DD payment, although my Mum who paid in full (cash) received a till receipt. Key fob for discount offers and swipe card (officially your pass) for entry to home games will follow.

A few people were in the shop today who hadn't received their renewal pack, everything seems a bit topsy turvy atm, shop staff were saying that they are going to need extra help if they are to deal with pass renewals and shop sales at the same time. Could get quite interesting when things get busy.

You can download a copy of the brochure of the Hull Fc website.

Seems an unusual decision, as I always thought that getting 'free' ticket office staff was one of the perks of our SMC deal.
